Shared Linux folder on Windows
I need a solution
Hi All
Good day!
Our client is planning to backup a Linux Server( CentOS 7). So one of their options is to create a Linux Shared folder that is seen on their Windows Server.
Basically, its more on a File Shared folder. How can I backup the Linux shared folder? Is the backup policy should be on Linux or Windows? Do I need root credentials in order to backup the shared folder?
Also, as I've checked in the SCL of NBU 7.X CentOS 7 is compatible. If our client encounters a backup problem in ther CentOS is it supported by the Tech support if I create a case?
If there are any guides, im willing to read them.

BE 2014 and Exchange 2010
I need a solution
Hi there
I have a memory leak issue with BE 2014 running a backup on my Exchange server. It ran fine when I was using BE 2010, but since I moved to BE 2014, it consumes memory and the Exchange mailboxes become unavailable, I have to stop the BE remote service to get Exchange functioning again. Has anyone else witnessed this with Exchange?

Netbackup server is not connecting with client

I have master & media servers with RHEL6.5 OS & the client is windows 2012 os . The NB servers are in LAN & the client is in DMZ network .
In windows PC firewall is turned off. Firewall team is opened these ports in firewall to perform backup BPCD- 13782/ Vnetd- 13724/PBX-1556.
I have install the NB client in windows servers & when i try to connect i get the error as "socket read failed"

Agent Backup Exec for Linux doesn't see database instance

I have 2 instances on server. But backup exec see only one. And i can't to configure second instance to backup.

maximum partially filled media - another "why is this is"
I need a solution
hi all,
I see this topic comes up from time to time but I also see that there supposadly was in the works the ability to override the EOM in order to force spanning I guess (in order to fill partially full active media). We are running 7.5.0.7, Solaris master, single RHEL media server with 5 LTO5 drives, and the pool Offsite-1mo is set to 1 partially fill media yet on any given day there is always 3-4 partially full tapes. The reason this irks me is we vault daily and I am consuming at least 2x more media than should be.
I've checked the basics - all drive types are the same, no mixed retentions of anything using that pool, and only 1 media agent. Media sharing is not enabled. It doesn't matter what I set the limit to for this pool (and another BTW), it just goes and pulls in new tapes from scratch every day leaving us needing to vault partially filled tapes all the time.
What is the secret to force it to fill those tapes before pulling in new from scratch?

Shared Memory not accessible with different accounts with SAN backup

I think I ran under situation explained here: https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH74570.html but I can't find the key information I need: What is the correct permission to grant to my service account to prevent this situation.
Let me explain the situation in a few words:
I have a Windows cluster with 3 clustered SQL Server (2008R2) and NetBackup 7.6.0.4 (LAN and SAN mode)
Each SQL Server runs under a specific service account: Let call them "sa_instance_a", "sa_instance_b" and "sa_instance_b"
"NetBackup Client Service" and "NetBackup SAN Client Fibre Transport Services" run under another service account : "sa_netbackup"
Concerning the configuration, 2/3 of my SQL Server are backed up through LAN and the last one through SAN. There is no problem with the LAN one's, I can backup them with my personnal account (which is part of computer's administrators)
With the one that is backed up through SAN, I can't backup or restore (using the "NetBackup MS SQL Client") if I don't use the specific service account "sa_netbackup". Using this account is not a pretty solution for me since it could be used by a lot of people. I would prefer that they use their "usual" account like they do for the instance backed up through LAN.
When I read the technote, I thought that would be the solution but I can't find what permission should be granted to which service account.
The error I get is: "<4> handshake: Not a candidate for alternate buffer method because the NetBackup client service account does not match the account used for launching the backup".

I need a solution
Installed BackupExec 2014 SP1 on server configured with 2008 R2, connected by SCSI to Qualstar TLS-4480 tape library. When [attempting to] configure storage, install drivers, it says no devices present. On POST the SCSI indicates the QUALSTAR and both tape drives in that device.
Looking at hardware compatability list, the TLS-4480 is OK
Cannot figure out what I am doing wrong that it will not let me configure storage.
(Has been functioning OK, with a 2003 Server operating on 2003 with Backup Exec 10d.)

bpclimagelist is hanged

Hello,
I've a strange issue with the bpclimagelist command.
If I don't put the "-s" attribute in my command line, it's simply don't work.
So, to sum up:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpclimagelist don't work.
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpclimagelist -U -s 04/10/2015 works perfectly.
I run the command under a linux RHEL 6.6 and my Netbackup version is NetBackup-RedHat2.6.18 7.5.0.4.

Backup Exec 15 jobs stay Active:Running -Backup but doesn't actually run

I upgraded to Backup Exec 15 about a week ago. Everything has been running smoothly until last night. Two of the backups started and just sat at Active: Running - Backup, but only list 0 bytes. When I try to cancel the jobs they just hang there and I have to reboot the server for them to fully cancel. When I try to backup any of the servers that Backup Exec normally backs up the same problem occurs on any of them. Job logs show no errors, they just basically stop once it gets to a certain point. Has anyone else been experiencing this? Our other site is running Backup Exec 15 with no issues.

BackupExec 2010 r3 Global Exclusions
I need a solution
I am backing up a folder structure like this
\\server1\users\fred\desktop
\\server1\users\fred\documents
\\server1\users\fred\$recycle.bin
\\server1\users\john\desktop
\\server1\users\john\documents
\\server1\users\john\$recycle.bin
I want to globally exclude all the $recycle.bin folders. I've been all over trying to see how to set up the exclusion but can't get it to work.

What is the correct way to restore a file to a DFS from Symantec Backup Exec 2014?
We have several files/Directories get hit with the Cryptowall. I tried restoring the files/Directories under Shadow Copy Components and Check the Mark this server as the primary arbitrator for replication when restoring folders managed by the File Replication Service . Even thou its only a few files. The other servers in the DFS will go though a Re-initialize. This does not work well at the servers at the branch level.
I also tried without the checking Mark this server... . This time the server I copied to started to Re-initialize.
How to a just restore a small group of files to a DFS and not Re-initialize the servers?

Error 1719 Windows Installer service when installing client
I need a solution
I get the following error message when installing NBU 6.5 client on a Windows server:
"Error 1719 Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur it the Windows Installer
is not correctly installed"
- The Windows server is running Server 2008 R2
- One check was to be sure that the Windows Installer is running - and it was
- Rebooting the server did not change anything either
- Suggestions anyone?
