I have a silly doubt for which I need solution.
Consider I have a NBU policy whcih has 3 schedules
1. INCR_BKP with 35day retention,
2.WEEK_FULL with 35day retention and
3. Monthly_full with 1yr retention.
Now If I use SLP with fixed retenmtion of 35 days then what will be retention of Monthly_full it will be 35 days as per LP or 1 YR as per schedule.
Kindly advice.

IN BE2014 ,I set the storage limit to 20GB and disabled preallocate disl space to maximum file size. there are two files servers in my backup job.
Don't know why the first backup files was not reach maximum size , only few GBs or hundreds MBs. And then BE created another .bkf.
In BE2010, we didn't have this issue and the foregoing .bkf files were all backup to 20GB before creating the next one.
In BE2014, I only restore a small excel file from the full backup, but notice that in the restore job history, it used 3 tapes in the restore job. Is it normal?
Have moved from NBU 6.5 to 7.5 and now would like some input on the best way to deal with long term tape backups of important records some with expiration dates of up to five years.
What is the best method of dealing with this type of situation?
Are there any established or best practices and procedures?
Importing the tapes or just creating copies of the backup history as required?

Currently, I prepared a schedule to have :
2 differential backups ( noon at 12PM and evening at 7PM, daily). Evening catridge is intended to store offsite. Keeps 4 weeks data.
1 Full backup on every Friday - Stored offisite
Problems I see are:
The differential backups taking lots of time and I scheduled to the evening/offsite backup to after-office hours and we have to wait until the backup is finished( it takes sometes 2 or 3 hours to backup 700+GB)
How to easily(not barcode) lable the Catridges( I have 40 Catridges) ?

I have just installed and configured Netbackup client on Windows 2012 servers.
When checking under Netbackup Management -> Host Properties -> Clients,
and clicking on my Client Server, it is showing Media Servert as the host type and not as Client.

I have configured SQL database and while i try to run backup it is failing with return code 2 (see below attached log) . I have generated batch file using different user name than 'sa'. My environment is as follows -

Netbackup server version: 7.6..0.2
Can some one please help me what version ( either 7.6.0.1 or 7.6.1) of Netbackup plug-in for vCenter require?
I'm getting this server when trying to execute the command
bpdbjobs -most_columns -noheader -M Master_server2.

I've got a client asking for either hardware/software encryption for their tape backups, and the software they use is NBU.
To my mind, I'd go with software encryption, but my questions are as follows:
* Can we use software encryption within NBU without licensing it? If not, what is required?
* What would be preferred best practice for encryption when the software used is NBU?

I was wondering if there was a way to either backup the entire Users folder on OS X or to be able to set a path variable like Windows. I am trying to backup OneDrive data that is placed under the user folder. I can easily specify a user directory such as /Users/John/OneDriveBusiness but to do that for nearly 100 users isn't an option.
In Windows I am able to utilize a path variable of %USERNAME% to grab each user's files. In OS X, the same command does not work. I tried UNIX variables such as $USER and $LOGNAME without success. Thinking I would be able to grab the entire /Users folder by specifiying /Users, but it doesn't seem to get the entire profile.
The admin guide does not go into detail for Macs as it does for Windows. Any help is appreciated.

I noticed that i'm limited as well when i do a filter in the "Activity Monitor". I can only go back a few days. Can that be changed as well?

We have 8 drives and we need 7 for backups and 1 for restore. We have SSO and 3 ( 2 Media servers and 1 master servers ) are accessing these 8 drives.

When software/hardware encryption is used it would generate a file in the BE database, so how will the operation happen in the background, meaning how will detect that the tape is encrypted and how will it understand the key which we give.

1)Difference between SPC-2 SCSI reserve and SCSI persistent reserver. What are these?
2) Lets say we have two mount points in backup selection with multistream enabled in backup selection and in Policy.
\exchange, \firewall now we exclude this firewall mount point directory in exclude_list.
So what will happen. Job for firewall would start or get failed? How many jobs would run?
