    I need a solution

    Hi All,

    We are trying to automate the process of VMDK restore in Netback7.5 (Windows and Linux). Version 7.6 have direct command (nbrestorevm) to perform the process. But cant find any command for the same. Does anyone have done or have command to VMDK restore usig 7.5?

    Any help is appreciated.

    I need a solution

    Hello everyone,

    we received from our Netbackup Appliance 5230 a warning regarding the temperature from P2 Therm Margin (Hardware Error/Warning(s) Notice).

    Temperature: 0 degrees C

    LowWaterMark: -128 degrees C

    HighWaterMark: -15 degrees C

    State: Warning

    How do I have to interpret these values? Can this be a bug or something?

    am letzten Wochenende habe ich ganz neue Bänder LTO3 bei unserer Bandwechsler eingesetzt. Die Sicherung wurde abgebrochen, mit Fehler E00084EC.

    Die Laufwerke wurden gereinigt, aber das hat leider nichts geändert.

    Endgültiger Fehler: 0xe00084ec - Im Backup-Speicher ist ein Lese-/Schreibfehler aufgetreten.
    
    Wenn der Speicher bandbasiert ist, liegt dies normalerweise daran, dass die Lese-/Schreibköpfe im Bandlaufwerk verunreinigt sind. Säubern Sie das Bandlaufwerk und versuchen Sie den Auftrag erneut. Besteht das Problem weiterhin, versuchen Sie es mit einem anderen Band. Möglicherweise müssen Sie auch Probleme mit Kabeln, dem Abschluss oder anderen Hardwareproblemen.

    Nach meinem Recherchen deutet das eventuell auf Fehlerhaft Hardware hin. Im Prinzip kann ich mir das fast nicht vorstellen, gerade auch weil es im Zusammenhang mit den neuen Bändern auftritt. Hätte man die neuen Bänder vorab "löschen" müssen bevor man sie einsetzt? 

    Mir ist aufgefallen das er nicht alle Bänder als "bad" einstuft, sondern nur einige. Ich habe jetzt ein paar Backup Jobs gestartet, einige Laufen fehlerfrei. Wenn es an der Hardware liegen würde, dann würde der Fehler doch konstant auftreten oder nicht?

    Vielleicht kennt jemand die aufgetretenen Fehler nach dem Bändertausch.

    Hi,

    I recently encountered a problem with one of our backup jobs. If it succeeds it usually backs up 3,5 TB od data from an OS X server that has a couple of iSCSI shares connected to it. Two weeks ago this full backup failed after backing up 1,34TB of data with this error:

    Completed status: Failed
    Final error: 0xe000ff11 - A communications failure has occurred with a Linux or Unix resource.
    Final error category: Resource Errors

    And the next days daily backup failed with this error:

    Completed status: Failed

    I checked on the server and it turned out that the agent was not running, I tried to restart it, but it did not start, so I reinstalled it and run a test backup, which worked. I thought it was a one time thing and left it like that for this week. This week the backup failed again, this time after backing up 1,36TB which seems to close to last weeks 1,34TB to be an accident. It failed with the same error and the agent is again not responding. 

    I googled the error of course and found this:

    But I can't find the  'Back up contents of soft-linked directories' option.

    All I see is this:

    Hi all ;

    i have the below environment :

    * Master server Hostname: Netbackup-bck , Solaris 10

    * Media servers :

         1- Oracle RAC Servers :

               - racnode1  hostname: newpension1-bck , backup under /NB_backup/DB_backup

               - racnode2 hostname: newpension2-bck 

         2- standalone db server:

             - hostname: dbserver-bck.

    i took backup from the oracle RAC database using the the first node newpension1-bck  and the ASM backup is under /NB_backup/DB_backup .

    there was adatabase installed in standalone db server , so we deleted it to make a redirect restore from newpension1-bck to dbserver-bck . i speaked to DBA about that and confirm about restore from ASM backup to non-ASM database .

    below the steps i used to perform the restore:

    * on master server :

         1- vi /usr/openv/netbackup/db/altnames/dbserver-bck
             newpension1-bck

    * on "destination server" dbserver-bck :

          1- browse the oracle backups bu running bplist -S netbackup-bck -C newpension1-bck -t 4 -l -R /

    I need a solution

    hi

    can anybody help me with restoring last active directory server (BDC-2012) from a 6 month old system recovery image.

    PDC & BDC failed and no recent backup is available . last backup is a very old SSR 2013 full backup of BDC . BDC was a 2012 VM on ESXi 5.5 1.

    when i restore that backp BDC server boots up and right before login page i get a blue screen that says "directory service cannot start... " and server resets, however i have access to DSRM mode and i think there is a problem with age of backup that im restoring .

    do anybody know how can i start Directory service? or resove this problem?

    In Windows the deduplication disk appears to be full while in the Backup Exec console i have 18 TB used on 27 TB.

    Accelerator requires OST plug-in at version 2.6 or later.

    Does upgrading OST plugin on media server have any impact.

    Can we upgrade OST plugin while backups are running or do we need to stop the backups?

    Does it require to restart media server services after upgrade.

    Hi,

    I have a tape library with 4 drives . I have configured the diskstagging &  configured the schedule to write tha backups from disk to tape .

    ThoughI have 4 drives when the duplication happens it takes either 1 or 2 drives & rest backups will stand in queue .

    Do we need to so any settings in NB so that 4 pararrel jobs can run ?

    Hello. I am testing 7.6.1.1 in my lab and I'm having a problem with my catalog backups. They are failing with a code 96 (unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available(96)). I compared with my production master and the policy is configured exactly the same. One thing that I can see being different is when the backup starts, the media server is the master itself. The thing is, the master is only active for disk and we want it to stay that way. The storage units are not using the master as media server so I don't understand that behavior... Anyone ever saw something like that?

    We were on a version 7.5.0.7 a week and was asked by Netbackup support to upgrade as GRT for 2013 exchange is supported from 7.6.0.3

    Netbackup master, media servers and exchange clients were upgraded to 7.6.1. We were still not able to configure the GRT backups.
    Support asked us upgrade to 7.6.1.1 as GRT exchange 2013 backups is supported only in versions 7.6.0.4 and 7.6.1.1.
    It was informed that features support only in the mentioned versions (as in the link provided) and not even in higher versions.

    Is there a possibility that GRT feature was removed in version 7.6.1?

    As if I wasn't irritated enough... I just spent twenty minutes trying to type up a post, only to hit a button on the web page by accident and lose everything I typed... so be patient with me... I have looked at other forum posts, and they don't really address the issue I'm currently having.
     
    Some background info: master server is "kronos," media server (with tape library attached) is "rchnbump1". Running on Linux servers with NBU version 7.6.0.4.
     
    I have some tapes from 2012 that I have brought back onsite, and I am trying to import them into the current NBU database (it doesn't know about them). This is BS (before Susan) so I am working with a limited amount of knowledge, some notes passed on by old colleagues and my own experience.
     
    There are about 30 tapes. I have loaded them up into the library and updated the volume config so NBU knows they're there. I have run some basic commands given to me by an old team member--I believe the tape library used to be directly connected to kronos, so one of them is a bpimage -oldserver -newserver command.
     
    On about 25 of the tapes the create_db_info step ran fine, no problem. I have about a half dozen "unhappy" tapes. When I first loaded them into the library I noticed that for some reason the barcode was showing as nine characters instead of 8. From reading in the forums, I deleted those tapes, went to the advanced tab of the inventory and set a nine-character rule, and inventoried the tapes again. The tapes then showed up with the same type of name as the other ones. Also, this made the tape names as they were referenced on the old paper (yes, paper, I know archaic) documentation that went along with these tapes.
     
    Examples: Tape that worked the first time had a barcode of NB4949L3, was read in as NB4949 no problem.
    Tape that didn't seem to work the first time had a barcode of NB04643L3, and was originally read in as 4643L3. I set up a nine-character barcode rule to have the tape show up as NB4643, which is the way it was referenced in documentation.
     
    This tape though (and the other tapes with this problem) weren't working with the create_db_info command. The job was hanging, as if it couldn't find the tape:

    So the "tape media server not active" made it seem to me like it thought the tape should be "owned" by kronos, which was the old media server; but when I try to change the "owner," (and I apologize if I'm referring to this wrong) it can't seem to find the tape:

    no entity was found
     
    Based on the documentation I have here, there is data on these tapes. They should be behaving just like the other tapes in this batch of 30 or so, but for some reason they aren't. Please feel free to ask whatever questions you want if you're willing to help. Thanks in advance.

    I need a solution

    We have employed System Recovery 2013 R2 Management Solution as the backup/restore solution for client desktops in my organisation. And for my sins I have just inherited the day to day administration of said infrastructure product.

    I was wondering if there is any information available apart from Admin guide that discusses the best way to go about creating backup policies to manage the backing up of about 800 or so pc's across the business? I would appreciate any real world case stories, what works and what to avoid in terms of assigning of polices to pc's and assigning backups across the storage destinations.

    Apologies for the general fluffiness of the question but this is all very new to me.

    Where the mail is a distribution list which are shaped to five users. I've already entered but not coming when distribution list, and by Symantec I have reviewed all right, even I have given more than 5 users account properties to replicate for users who are on that list distribution.

    We are planning to migrate NBU master (7.6.0.2) as we are doing server replacement.

    Old server OS - OEL 5.6 (kernel - 2.6.18-238.19.1.0.1.el5)

    New server OS - RHEL 6.6 (kernel - 2.6.32-431.29.2.el6.x86_64)

    I have two issues that need to be solved:

    1. When selecting a source drive for backup, Symantec System Recovery (SSR) 2011 does not recognize my usb external hard drive disk (4TB, Western Digital).
    2. In SSR, what are the steps in order to copy a backup image from external HDD (F:\) to another external HDD (G:\). Drives (F and G) are used as examples.

    Is it possible to set up SharePoint backups via Windows Network Load Balancing?

    I have NetBackup 7.6.0.3 and SharePoint 2013 consisting of 2 front end Web servers, 2 SP App servers and a single back end SQL server. I've set all the required credentials and everything works fine when I set the client in the policy to either one of the WEB servers. When I set the client to the virtual name of the NLB I get an error status 42.

    The Microsoft SharePoint Resources:\Global Settings is actually successful and completes with status 0 but the Microsoft SharePoint Resources:\Shared Services elements all fail with "system call failed - connection reset by peer". I guess this is to do with name resolution

    Is there a way to configure this kind of setup?

    I've added an entry in the DAR mapping in the host properties for the environment, but it's the backup that's failing and not the restore

    The nearest I seen to a similar question is the following link and the resolution here seems to be to have a 'dummy' policy for the second web server and not to use the NLB virtual name at all - Is this the only option still?
