I need a solution

Hi,

we have 1 master server and 1 media server installed NBU 7.6 (OS are Redhat 6.6 both)

Since we just had 2 new blade server installed ESXi 6 so we want to use netbackup VMware policy to backup the VM in these 2 hosts. (1 vcenter installed for this 2 esxi blade servers).

As i check on the NBU 7.6 for VMware admin guide, media server can be configured as backup host so I decided to stick to this option.

My question is do I need to install netbackup client sofware on the media server ?

I need a solution

Hi,

I have just set up a veritas netbackup server 6.5.6 on a windows server 2k8 R2 machine. It has about 50 policies.

All backup policies are running finen except for one policy which has Client Server ABC.Client ABC has two backup policies configured of which the other policy is working fine.

The policy which is not working is taking long and is not completing.Like it keeps on running.

Detailed status tab of this policy is as below.

7/10/2015 6:52:53 PM - granted resource IBM.ULT3580-HH6.003
7/10/2015 6:52:53 PM - granted resource indelndbkp1-dlt-robot-tld-0
7/10/2015 6:52:53 PM - estimated 0 kbytes needed
7/10/2015 6:52:53 PM - started
7/10/2015 6:53:19 PM - connecting
7/10/2015 6:53:21 PM - connected; connect time: 00:00:02
7/10/2015 6:53:21 PM - begin writing
7/10/2015 7:55:26 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=6664) cannot send mail because BPCD on ABC exited with status 59: access to the client was not allowed

Current time is 13/7/15 11:48 hrs and it is still running with any intimation in "Percentage Compleate".

Please let me know what needs to be done to fix it.

Thanks

Netbackup - Host move using catalog restore method

I need a solution

I have a question regarding the process of moving NBU master server between hosts using the catalog restore method.

I am moving hosts to achieve better hardware platform, move from W2K3 to W2K8R2 and subsequent move from 7504 to 7612.  I am happy enough with the procedure but have have question around the use of ALTPATH for the catalog image entries.

In this particular site there are a number of images on the C drive (images directory) but the majority use the ALTPATH and are located on the E drive.

Prior to performing the catalog restore on my new server (same name / same IP / same version of NBU installed in same path) do I need to create anything on the E drive for the images out there or will the required directories simply get restored in the correct locations ?

Thanks,

AJ

Hot Catalog backup producing 5 emails per day

I need a solution

I have been working on a new greenfield setup for our backup. One of the first things i have done is reimplement our daily hot catalog backup with off-site copy.

Of course i put an email address in the policy so we receive the DR information somewhere else then the backup systems.

What i am now noticing (more then with 7.6.0.3) is that we receive a lot of emails from the Hot Catalog policy. In 7.6.0.3 it was 3 emails per day (mother job, the actual backup and the SLP copy confirmation). With 7.7 i now get 5 emails, the mother, 3 sub jobs each backing up a certain part and the SLP copy.

Does anyone know if there is any way to just receive 1 email for the abckup and 1 email for the succesful SLP copy?

I dont believe this issue is actually related to a network issue because all of the other policies tied to this server work fine. I am not sure where to go with this one.

I found this bit in the bpbkar log from the client...

I have attached the bpbkar and bpcd logs from the client.

This server has several policies because its remote and has a 1TB shared area with deparment shares and home drive data for users. The only policy that fails is the one that backs up Q-T.

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Greetings!

We ask our NetBackup partners to participate in a survey project because of your knowledge and experience with the NetBackup 5330 appliance running v.2.6.1 and beyond.

The survey is a cooperative effort between the Appliance Development Engineering team and the Experience Design team.

Our goals are to:
·       measure the effectiveness of current user experience programs
·       drive product improvements in the future
·       explore the predictive value of early feedback from internal field engineers and partners in relation to traditional corporate marketing surveys

Your responses will be kept anonymous and aggregated for reporting purposes, however, you will have the opportunity to provide your contact information for the purpose of receiving survey results and findings, should you want them.

The survey link is not unique, so please feel free to share it with any of your collegues that you know who have experience with the NetBackup 5330 appliance running v.2.6.1 and beyond.

Incorrect protected time of tape

I need a solution

The days to keep of the tape data are set to 2 weeks in media set options. We can see the protected time of tapes used today is correct. But for the tape used in June, which was swapped and now insert into autoloader for reuse, the protected time was changed to 4 weeks and we have to move it to scratch media set for reuse. Any idea why the protected time of tape which was re-inserted to autoloader will changed to 4 weeks? Thanks

Need some info on Netbackup logs

What are the logs that consumes most of Netbackup server processing power? That I should be careful when I turned them on

What is the maximum and minimum verbose level settings? what is the optimal level of verbose setting?

Can netbackup archive those logs automatically at periodic intervals?

Is it possible to configure "seeding" for backup replication (not duplication)?

I need a solution

Hello,

I'm looking for feedback about replicating data from MSDP master server on remote sites back to data center site.

They are not in the same domain. I referred some symantec documents (such as "https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH163110.html") that pre-seeding could be used for deduplication but I don't know if I could use seeding to speed up the initial full backup replication. If it could be used, what's the configuration step ?

I need a solution

Hello All,

I am a newbie.

Backup Exec 14.1 is running fine.

I am trying to upgrade it to version 14.2 (Backup Exec 15). I am encountering problems at the initial stage where the Environment check is conducted.

Error

Backup Exec SQL Upgrade Check - Failed

I have checked the software compatibility list and SQL 2008 R2 is certainly on the list.

I fail to understand why the checks are failing.

I need a solution

Hi Dumb question:

If I want to order lto-5 bar code labels, do they have to be specific to the tape manufacturer I am using ? eg order quantum label for quantumtapes or HP labels for HP tapes or are they generic ?

thanks in advance
