GEN 3 media restoration issue on IBM TS3500 Library

Hi All,

I am facing one restoration issue in our environment. Please confirm whether GEN 3 media is readable in GEN 5 drives?

          A pending request has been generated for this resource request.
          Operator action may be required. Pending Action: Misplaced tape,

Backup Exec 2015 Post command XML Report

Hi, I am trying to implement a custom "verify job" using a BEMCLI in the "POST COMMAND" config option.

I call it using "powershell c:\bat\myscript.ps1" and it gets called so everything works fine.

The problem I am having is that I need to be able to parse the xml report that is generated during the job

I saw the job ID was set as an environment variable so I read it using

sJobID = $env:BE_JOB_ID

There is also a second environment variable which is

$sXmlFileName = $env:VSR_LOG_FILE_NAME which seems to be the temporary xml report (The name looks like C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data\VSR_Log_File1.xml"

But I can't find the data I need in the reports.

It seems the report gets saved AFTER the post command is completed so the file BEX_SERVER06_00025.xml (number gets incremented on each run) is not available...

I've been playing with
Get-BEJob -id $sJobID |
Get-BEJobHistory -FromLastJobRun |
Get-BEJobLog

Without success...

Is there a way to retrieve what files were backuped during the post command phase ? I need to return an error if my custom verify finds something invalid so that the job state is switched to "failed".

Any help would be appreciated.

i've been manning the NBU console for more than a year now and i work exclusively with the GUI on Windows 8.1 machine. though i find it easy, the command line version is faster and seems can do more (as Symantec tech support usually uses the CLI). i've tried to search for NBU CLI commands but they refer to specific tasks like restore or backup. i'm looking for a complete guide (like what is bpclntcmd) with switches and explanations so that i can peruse them as i go about my daily tasks.

appreciate any help on this.

SSR 2013 R2 - Email report/result not in language

I need a solution

Hi i have an ssr install which for some reason has gone completely weird. When ssr finished i get it to email the result for monitoring purposes. However for some reason it now doesn give me anything that says sucess or failed.
heres an example:

I need a solution

Hi,

Add I know differential backup have to reference from full backup.

In my environment, I will do full backup on Sun, differential backup on Mon - Sat night.

Since new set of backup tapes will be rotated on every Mon morning.

My question is differential backup need to reference to Sun backup tape ?

Or I just reference from Backup Exec DB ?

Backup Exec 15 not processing and clearing Exchange 2010 log files

I need a solution

I have a problem with Exchange 2010 log files not getting processed.

The Exchange 2010 is a virtual server running W2K8 R2 on Vsphere 5.5. The information store is located on my D drive 120GB Virtual drive.
This past Friday I found the entire 120GB drive was practically filled and the database got dismounted. I had to enlarge the drive to bring the
store back online.
The mailbox database is just under 24GB and I have 94.4GB of log files.

I have Backup Exec 15 with all of the agents which you can get when you purchase the product from Techsoup.org.

For the installation of Backup Exec the following are checked:

Online Documentation
Virtual Tape Library Support
Agent for Applications and Databases
Agent for VMware and Hyper-V

I installed the backup agent to the W2K8 R2 Exchange 2010 server.
In the Backup Exec 15 configuration for that server I turned off Advanced Open File.
Under Virtual machine options these are checked:

Use the full backup method for virtual machines that do not support incremental or differential backups
Back up virtual machines that are powered off
Use Backup Exec Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) to enable the restore of individual files and folders from virtual machines
Enable GRT for Microsoft Exchange databases and mailbox items on virtual machines.

I can find no other settings in the backup job configuration concerning Exchange.

So why aren't the log files getting processed?

Checksum failing

Hi Everyone,

Every time I run a back up I am getting the error 0xe000fe34 - A checksum of the data has failed.

I've trying to back up to a USB hard drive, have tried multiple drives, have updated drives firmware, have done liveupdates. Without verying the jobs succeed but then fail when you try to restore data.

Any ideas on this? Could it be the data I am backing up or will it be something to do with the USB drive or back up exec job set up? It's getting to the point where I may need to look at another soloution.

I need to know that , whether VSS(Volume Shadow Copy Service) is mendatory for Flashbackup or Snapshot backup. As we are facing one issue that , after backup completes , snapshot not getting deleted automatically.

1) OS win-2003 32Bit Enterprise edition want to upgrade 2003 to Windows 2008 64 Bit Ent

2) BE 2010 with Media V-13.0 R-2896  want to upgrade BE 2014

Means of  end of support of microsoft win2k3  that why we are planning to upgrad windows as well as BE also on same server. server h/w support does 2008 only

Hello Guys,

I want do backup job to disk and duplicate to tape :

- Backup Exec : 2014

- Disk Storage : Local Disk

- Tape Auto Loader  : IBM TS 2900

- Cartridge : 5

- Server : 2 File Server, 6 SQL Server

- Disk Backup
    * Full Backup    : Saturday
        = Overwrite   :: 2 Weeks
        = Append      : Allow Append (Because disk storage will automatically remove Expired Backup Set)

    * Incremental     : Moday - Friday
        = Overwrite   :: 1 Week
        = Append      : Allow Append (Because disk storage will automatically remove Expired Backup Set)

- Duplicate to Tape
    * Full Backup       : Immadiate After Full Backup Job is Finished
        = Overwrite      :: 3 Weeks
        = Append        :  5 Weeks

Now, I wanna ask some question about that :

1. Am I correct about Append Period in Backup to Disk?

2. Is there any configuration that i need to do before use the Autoloader (Outside Create Media Set and Associate Tape with Media Set)?

If you have some advise for me about this job or configuration, i'm really happy to hear.

Hi Experts,

I have one linux red hat client v7.7 and there is /var/images/hpg82 which is used to save the related files of my KVM.

I want to know the detailed impact if I do standard backup with /var/images/hpg82 while the VM is running.

Hyper-v backup, taking backup of the vhdx files

Hi

I am experiencing some problems with the backup of a hyper-v host, the problem is that i take backup of the folder with the vhdx files and it goes through like it suppoes to, but when i want to restore som vhdx disks they are missing from the restore pane 

The two pictures below show the same folder in backup and restore pane

I need a solution

My client servers is Windows 2008 R2 Standard. My client servers have installed PostgreSQL 9.2 (x86). My client servers never install the NetBackup agents before. I need to install the netBackup agents 7.1 in the client servers. (My site are using NetBackup 7.1.) Always I'm running the prerequsite check on the client servers, it showed the error about "An existing installation of PostgreSQL has been detected. You must uninstall the existing PostgreSQL before installing NetBackup.".

Basically, I checked in NetBackup Forum relate with my issue. Following the web link https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH182539.html It describe the issue relate with NetBackup 7.5, not 7.1. While my NetBackup server is 7.1. I'm not sure this solution can solve my issue or not?

Can I solve this issue? Please help me. Thank you.

Hi,

We are using symantic veritas 6.5.6 to backup all unix and windows servers.Our backup server is on win2k8 enterprise 64 bit.

We recently come across issue where backup of certain servers faiiled with error message 58.

I have restarted all netbackup services of both client and server.I have also checked client firewall.but still no vain.

Below are output of bptestbpcp,nslookup,telnet etc.

BE2015-Tape goes offline

I need a solution

Hi all,

I got a fresh BE2015 installation on a W2012R2.The first backupjob to a LTO6 drive finished correctly.

Since then, every further job is being canceled because of a storage or mount  error. The Tape goes offline.

This happens even with new tapes.

There is a hint to look in support DB V-275-1137, but I can´t find anything helpful. --> "no results found"

Any help is welcome.....

NBU Appliances with NBU 7.7 clients

Quick question to all

What do you reckon, is backing up NBU 7.7 clients with current up to date NBU appliances 7.6.1.2 (IIRC) supported?

I thought there was a leeway with support when client could be higher version than the media server although it was only for the fourth digit patch (kind of 2.6.0.1 appliance could back up 7.6.0.4 client no worries). How it works now? Am I becoming lazy or just not able to find if it is actually stated somewhere?

I could be in an awkward position if there is no appliance code that can support 7.7 clients now as I would need to suggest to use DD instead. 

Any link with official statement would help.
