when launching a Desktop and Laptop Option (DLO) client. "The Software is either not configured or has been disabled by your Administrator"

I need a solution

When I launch Symantec DLO client. i got an error which says 

"The Software is either not configured or has been disabled by your Administrator".

and DLO Client windows shows Disabled. So therefore, I am unable to customize and none of my files are backed up. either on my desktop folder or Network folder. 

Please help me in this regard.

Furthermore, My Symantec Desktop and Laptop Option license has expired.

I have requirement to get ntebackup configurations from symantec opscenter. I tried with opscenter custom report but there i dont have any option to join the tables path selection and client version.

Can you please help me in getting the configuratioin information in the following format  using opscenter? This is no time basis. If you need any information please let me know.

Hi,

I need your help in below described case:

- site A (Media Server W2k8+ Master Server for all sites ):

  -clientA

- site B (Media Server RHEL 5.9 ):

  -clientB

- site C (Media Server W2k8):

  -clientC

NBU version is 7.6.0.1

I do backup on tapes job of clientB's data via media server in site B.

Now I need to restore clientB's data ane write to clientA via media server in site A.

What are the steps to avoid thru WAN restore...?

I found this article but guess it is dedicated for restore when image is not in EMM db?

Cannot change current media server for only one image

I need a solution

We have several media servers - one for each environnement and backup are written to tapes. The robotic is shared between all the environnements.

We need to change media server for only one NetBackup image - in order to restore a backup performed in one envronment to another.

However, It seems that it is impossible to move only one image from media to another - command bpimage -newserver -oldserver -id  - move all the backups of one tape !

Does somebody has an idea to move only one image ?

Master server Solaris 10, 7.6.0.3
Media Server Hp UX 11.31, 7.6.0.3
Client WIndows 2008 R2, 7.0.1

Connectivity is fine, bptestbpcd command is completeting without error.
Detailed status of job shows "begin writing" then job stcuks for hours and don't start writing.

There is only one IP on client which is teamd and getting used for backups.
checked Vss Wrtiers and get following message.

Waiting for responses.
These may be delayed if a shadow copy is being prepared.

Howvere I checked Shadow copies are disabled on widnows for all drives.
In event viewer I see following error when ever I initiate backup.

NetBackup Appliance hangs then shuts down

Hi troops,

IHAC who found one of the two 5220 2.6.1.1 appliance turned off twice and he had to power it off from the display since IMPI was not responfing either.

They opened a case with Symantec but since in the logs there was nothing relevant, Support could not provide a RCA. I looked at the logs myself and apart from the gap in the messages logs I did not find any specific errors.

Have you ever seen this ?

Customer confirmed that the backups are working fine and operation is normal but one LED on Power Supply is Blinking

o Indication: The current power supply has failed. The other power supply in the unit is on. 

o Recommended actions: 

1. Check if the AC power cord is unplugged. 

2. Check if the AC is lost. Critical event causing an AC lost may include: over current protection (OCP), over voltage protection (OVP), over temperature protection (OVP). 



Customer mentioned that the LED is Blinking Green 

• LED is blinking green 

o Indication: AC present, only 12VSB on. Power supply is off or in cold redundant state.

Native Command Queuing (NCQ) is an extension of the Serial ATA protocol allowing hard disk drives to internally optimize the order in which received read and write commands are executed. 

This can reduce the amount of unnecessary drive head movement, resulting in increased performance (and slightly decreased wear of the drive) for workloads where multiple simultaneous read/write requests are outstanding, most often occurring in server-type applications.

Its been 3 weeks since that the appliance is working fine hence customer gave consent to close the case . 

They will reference this case in future if happen to see the same scenario again.

NPIV vs SAN client

Hello,

I was asked by a potential customer about SAN client support in NPIV environment.

I see there is probably no sense for this question on a Media Server side, where FC ports should be dedicated to Fibre Transport and operating in target mode.

On a client side, we could have - for example - AIX LPARs running with virtual FC ports, with NPIV on physical port. I did not find any explicit statement about SAN Client/NPIV, but I see it should be supported - there is no special requirement for FC HBAs on a client side, and http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH162738 states that "All NetBackup components supported on physical media servers are supported on IBM AIX Virtual Machines ".

So when there is a physical port dedicated for FT, and virtual ports in VMs are associated with it, then SAN client shoud work from VMs inside.

Does anybody have some comments, or implementation experience with this?

Hello

I’m trying to establish if NBU 7.6.1 will support EV agent backups of EV11.0.1. The reason I'm asking is in the NBU Agent SCL is says "Enterprise Vault 11 is not supported in NetBackup 7.6.1."

Should that read as 'EV11.x isn't supported on NBU 7.6.1'..... or am I ok because I'm on EV11.0.1 and not EV11?

The EV matrix just shows EV11.0 needs NBU 7.6.0.4 or later.... so somewhat conflicting information.....

NDMP Backup to include file types

Hi

With an EMC VNX is it possible to set an include list with NDMP backups?

I know I can exclude particluar folders and files bt would like to only backup particular file types so was planning to do a general 'Exclude' rule and then create an 'Include' just for the file types I want to backup.

I'm running NBU 7.6.1.2 and the VMX is running DART 8.x

1.-  Is posible to install SAN CLIENT with emulex card lpe12002e?

into HP 380 GL, linux redhat  2.6.504 as the master server.

2.-  It is posible to setup FT SAN MEDIA server on the master server?

as far we were able to install stub driver but it can't recongnize any port available.

Archive Bit vs. Modified Date - what is difference?

but was wondering if there was anything else to it.

 I notice that there is no longer a "copy" function (or i missed it). You used to be able to do a full backup "copy" mode where it ignored the archive bit - the "copy" backup backed everything up regardless of bit, it ignored it on backing up, and it didnt flip it once the file was copied. I don't see that option anymore.

Is there any difference between the two methods, other than described in that linked article?

I'm inclined to continue using the archive bit as the one sentence from the link has me a little squeamish about using "Modified Date":

"In case of files which are renamed, copied or whose attributes are changed, currently, you need to add these files manually in the backup job."

maybe the archive bit ALSO isn't flipped for these procedures, but i think i'll still just use the archive bit.

any thoughts or opinions?

Restores fail when restoring to different location

I've noticed that every time i try to restore a folder or file to a different location i get the messages below.

Standard policy restore error(2800)

The only way i've been able to get around this is by restoring the folders/files to the local drive on the backup server.

I then map a drive to the proper server and copy the folders/files over.

It also works if i restore to the original location.

I tried putting the server name and ip address on the local host file of the backup server. 

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

First of all let me explain you our Backup infraestructure.

We've got a Netbackup 5230 appliance (2.6.1.1) with 25TB cabine in the main site. Copies in the same site are working with no issues. Now, we've got a remote site with a VMWARE ESX 5.1. This server has a file server with Windows 2012 (fileserver) and vmware backup host with Windows 2008 R2 (BHserver), both servers connected to the same datastore in a HP SAS cabine connected to the server. Sites are connected by one 100 Mb/s point to point circuit.

The issue is it seems deduplication isn't being done in the client side but in Appliance. We've got set in fileserver "Always use client-side deduplication" and in the job policy BHserver is selected as VMware backup host.

I'm testing with boot disk (40GB). First copy took 77 minutes. (log1.txt)

We expected second copy was faster because the data sent should be fewer, but it took the same time. (Log2.txt)

As you can see were sent 444151 KB and a 98.9% of dedup theorically. How is it possible it's taking the same time? I was checking network with Traffic 10 0 and it was sending to 80Mb all the time. (and 40765163KB x 8 / 1024 / 80 / 60 = 66 minutes, near to 73 minutes it took.) Because of this I think dedup is done in target side not source.

The rest of the tries are taking the same time aprox (log3.txt)

How can we are sure or enforce client side deduplication?

I have Backup Exec 15 (v14.2) with Feature Pack 1 and Hotfix 232086 installed. I'm getting constant ODBC access errors - Event ID 34326 and 34338:

Backup Exec Alert: Catalog Error
(Server: "BE2012") ODBC access error. Possible lost connection to database or unsuccessful access to catalog index in the database.
