3 Questions:
Can someone tell me if BMR supports restoring to Linux on differing hardware? Specifically, RHEL 6.7 is the linux distro we use and NBU 7.6
Can anyone confirm that BMR P2V is only for Windows only and VMware with NBU 7.6?
Does any of this change in NBU 7.7?
Has anyone found a way around this?

I would like to create a script which would update expiration date of existing backup sets in disk based storage "x"-days forward. It seems there are no such command in BEMCLI.. or I have been unable to find it. Does anybody know where this information is stored and is it possible to modify it using powershell- or sql script?
Definition of backup job, "keep for x days", does not help me in this case.

We have NetBackup 7.7 running on Windows 2012R2.
We are currently migrating the userdata from a Celerra filer (backupped with NDMP) to a Windows solution.
As I understand NDMP restores can only be performed to an NDMP destination that also has to be from the same vendor.
Is there any way to restore our historic data without having any NDMP filer in the house?

I have some problem with a Hyper-v policy.
We have 2 cluster node with a virtual name
Virtual Name: SYSCLUHVP01S
Node 1: SYSHVP01S01
Node 1: SYSHVP01S02
In the policy I inserted the virtual name, but when click ok after few minutes appear a popup when I read "Please enter a valid Hyper-V machine name".
I have a lot of Hyper-v policies and all work fine.
If I enter the node name the policy accepts the configuration and discover the VM under this node.
Some environment details:
Master server
OS win server 2012 standard edition - NBU ver. 7.7.1
Media server
Appliance 5230 - NBU vers. 7.6.1.2
Host Hyper-v
windows server 2012 R2 Datacenter - NBU version 7.6.1.1

We have been running a Windows 2008 VMware Backup Host in NetBackup 7.5 successfully for some time. The Backup Host uses SAN transport and has datastore LUNs from a vSphere 5.5 instance mounted over FC. A new vSphere 6.0 instance has been introduced using iSCSI storage. Assuming I upgrade to 7.7 first to support vSphere 6.0, can I zone these datastore LUNs to the same VMware Backup Host and add the vCenter 6.0 credentials to NetBackup to enable VM backups for this instance too?
I would add dedicated NICs to the server for the iSCSI connectivity and for now lets assume the Backup Host's performance is not an issue.

I saw that I haven´t got SymSnapService.exe - looks like I only have SymTrackService

Using BE 2014 and its driving me nuts.
One of the Exchange Incremental Backup keeps failing! It has been fine for a while. Other databases on the same server dont seem to return this error.

We have a VM with multiple vmdk's, in a VM intelligent policy, and we want to exclude certain ones from being backed up. The ones in question we want to exclude are NTFS drives that are mounted in to the VM. Example: we only want to back up the C:\ and D:\ drives. I know there is an advanced option in a policy to "exclude data disks," but we do want to get the D:\ drive. We were looking at possibly marking a drive as independent in VMware... but when we tested this we weren't seeing the vmdk's in the VMware restore but we were seeing them in the standard files restore (we don't want to see them at all). I'm relatively new to NetBackup, but we're seeing slow performance, mostly with duplication jobs to our LTO5 tape library.
Here's a summary of our setup:
NetBackup v.7.6.0.3
Appliance: 5220
StorageTek SL150 tape libary (4 LTO5 tape drives)
SLPs: Write to PureDisk (34TB disk shelf) w/ retention of 5 weeks with a duplication job to tape (w/ 1 year retention)
LTO5 settings: Max concurrent drives = 2; Multiplexing Max Streams per drive = 6; Fragment size = 5000MB
PureDisk settings: Max concurrent jobs = 25; Max fragment size = 5000MB; Max I/O streams = 75/volume
Master (the only media server): Max jobs per client = 30; Min size per duplication job = 80GB; Max size per duplication job = 120GB
We've modifed the SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS for both tape and disk to 262144 and NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS to 256. We've also decreased our max concurrent tapes drives from 4 to 2, which seems to have helped a bit.
On our duplication jobs, we're only seeing around 15-20mb/sec throughput, while catalog backups are running around 80mb-100mb. Our HPUX/Unix clients are backing up around 60-80mb/sec, but our Windows clients are the ones that are suffering.
Log files are showing that there's too much time being wasted on tape positioning, waiting on full buffers and delays in filling those buffers.
It doesn't appear that we can push enough data to the tape drives and they have to constantly wait for more data before writing it to tape.
Example output from a recent job:

This is the new environment. One Appliance in Primary site and one in DR site. I started taking Backups from Sep 1st week to primary Appliance and replicating to DR Appliance with retention 2 months in both sites.
Now i want to duplicate all old images in Primary site from Disk to Tape and keep retention for four months. Future duplication it can be done through SLP. But how to duplicate old images which i have from Sep to Tapes?
Should i do using bpduplicate or vault? This is one time process. Can you all help me in your suggestions?

habe hier einen Windows Server 2008R2 Enterprise mit Symantec Backup Exec 2012. Daneben habe ich nun einen Windows Server 2012R2 Standart mit Symantec Backup Exec 2014.
Nun bin ich auf der Suche nach Informationen, wie ich die Datenbank und die Kataloge, sowie auch die Sicherungsjobs auf den neuen Server übertragen kann. Der alte Server wird danach abgeschaltet.
Die bisherigen Infos beinhalten meist die Migration bzw. Umzug auf einen anderen Server, bzw. auf einen neuen Server mit anderem Win OS. Allerdings
fand ich bisher noch keine Info, die eine Migration auf ein höheres Win OS und auf ein höhers Symantec Backup Exec erklärt.
Gibt es hierzu genauere Infos oder Anleitungen?

I am able to map the \\appliance\logs Open Share with the admin account. How do I enable of accounts to map to the share as well? I have created a CLI user as well as Admin account via the web console. Both accounts can not map to the share.
i am under the impression that NBU 7.x can handle open files while doing backup but i get the below error messages:

We abandoned Backup Exec (10d) years ago but now need to resurrect it. The Windows 2000 and 2003 client servers still have agents and we are establishing a different server to do the backups. There is a good chance the server we chose to do the backups was once a remote client.
We installed Backup Exec 10d on this existing Windows 2000 server but it cannot see any remote agents.
Should the master server (Media Server a better name?) be able to see all remote agents in the same domain?
Do I need to tell the remote agents about the new Backup Exec server?

I am currently investigating how to create a VMware Backup Proxy for use with Backup Exec 15 V-Ray. I have a BE15 media server available and would like to backup VM's of a vSphere Host (or vCenter) via HOTADD transport mode and not via NBD mode.
If I recall correctly, to use the HOTADD transport mode, a dedicated VM in one of the ESXi hosts of my VMware Cluster environment is necessary, so that this dedicated VM can attach and access SCSI vmdk's of other VM's in one of the datastores of my VMware Cluster environment?
What kind of OS is supported for this dedicated VM and let's say Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 R2 is running on this dedicated VM, what other software is necessary (from VMware or Symantec), so that this VM can be used as a VMware Backup Proxy capable of using the HOTADD transport mode.
I could not find any useful tech article or installation or configuration guide, which explains, how I can use and configure a VMware Backup Proxy in my VMware Cluster environment that can be used for HOTADD transport mode and which is then used from my Backup Exec 15 V-Ray media server, which is not part of the VMware Cluster environment and does not have SAN-access.
Any insights or tech articles, which explain how to use and configure HOTADD transport mode (a VMware Backup Proxy) for use with Backup Exec 15 V-Ray and not NetBackup is very very much appreciated.
