I am new to this world..of netbackup...i have an doubt is:-
NDMP is used to reduce the load on the servers. to perform backup and restore .
Technically i just want to know that ..how it works..is this works like a master and slave pattern.
Please clarify my doubt ...
Ok, so I followed all steps described in the users guide to make SSR 2013 perform a full system backup at log off, you know, an event-triggered backup, choosing to star the backup when "Any user logs offto the computer". However, backups are not working. I asume logging off should be equivalent to shutting down the computer (which is what I really want it to do, make a full system backup every time I shut down the computer when leaving work). I asumed that windows logs off first when you shut down the computer, but for whatever reason it doesn´t work.
Besides, in the list of event-triggered backups there is no "backup at shutdown"
Is there a way to make SSR 2013 backup at shutdown?.

I'm using Windows 2012 R2 together with Backup Exec 2014 and a LTO 5 tape drive from HP (SAS, internal). If I perform a Windows restart, the tape ejects. I don't like this behaviour because we reuse the tape the whole week and I restart the server normally remotely, so nobody can refeed the lto drive. Is there an option to prevent this behaviour? Windows 2008 together with BE 2010 doesn't do that...

| I have one Tape library configured to one Media server in our HO, attached via SAN switch using FC protocol. |
| We have also one (1) Media server in each remote site (6 sites in all). Each Media server has a disk storage unit attached directly to it. |
| The design of our infra is to create a backup copy(1) of remote client server on each designated local media server, a second copy to the HO and a 3rd copy to one remote media server, tagged as a DR. |
| I have given the media server in DR site a credential to access my media server in HO and vice versa. |
| My problem occurs during the monthly backup which will instruct HO Media server to write the backup image to the tape stu. |
| I have noticed Media server in DR (for some jobs) is the one doing the write to tape of the backup images stored in HO, w/c is also very noticeable that it writes very slow, compare when HO Media server does the job. |
| Is there a way we could specifically instruct NBU to perform the wrting to tape from our Media server HO only, and not to give the job to DR Media server? |
| I hope someone would share his/her expertice on this regards. |

We are using Symantec Netbackup 7.5 on our Redhat Linux Servers. In Activity Monitor before any backup process start it always shows Image Cleanup, does that means Symantec is deleting any expired images from disk or tape.
If I set retention period for a particular backup policies as 6 months. Does that mean those particular backed up files get expired after 6 months or is there any way to still access those expired images.
Has Symantec or Veritas released a Windows 10 version of SSR and I miss the notice?
If not does anyone know a schedule date?
I want to upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 because some people say 10 is faster, but I will not until I have a good backup that I know will work without problems.

Problem:
Unable to restore the virtual machine
Steps:

1.After Sucessful taken the VM backup.
2.To restore the full virtual machine
a) Start the NetBackup Backup, Archive, and Restore interface (BAR).
b) Specify the source client and destination client and type of policy:
In the Windows interface: Click Files > Specify NetBackup Machines and Policy Type.
3) In the Windows interface, click the down arrow on the Select for Restore option. Select Restore from Virtual Machine Backup. A restore window displays the backups available for restore. hence the issue.
Warning message saying that "doesnt contain any backup for client i.e window2008 alias win2k8-38,but i have taken sucessful backup for this vm win2k8-38 .

I have Backup Exec 15 /14.2 Rev. 1180 (64-bit)/ server, OS: Windows Server 2008 Enterprise x64 with Feature Pack 1 and Hotfix 232086 installed. I'm trying to rebuld the Catalog, i've renamed the Catalog folder to Catalog.OLD (CheckReclaimSpaceIntervalMinutes is set to 0) then started the "Inventory and Catalog now" process. The inventory job finished successfully , but the catalog job has failed with error:
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0000900 - The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the Catalog operation.

After enabling the showhiddenmedia option within the registry, im able to see each of the media sets associated with "The media operation was terminated by the user" error. In the contents section of each media there is an error "Terminated Backup Set / Corrupted" / "File is corrupted". My question here is how can i get rid of these 5 media sets (i have total 5089 sets):

stsinv tool provided by the support does not work at all ... Is it possible to move them in the "Quarantined media" section or in the "Retired media" with BEMCMD so they wont be used by the system?

As above, I bought a license inc agents and maintenance etc for 2014, I noticed before the end of the contract expired that I could see that 2015 was available to upgrade to. Having run liveupdate since, that option doesnt seem possible. Does this mean that I cannot now upgrade? Possibly a daft question but thought Id ask.

We are using Symantec Netbackup 7.5 on Redhat Linux with standalone tape drive . I have created backup policies with retention level= 2 months, and all backup's have been successfully completed on allocated tape A0005.
Now, I have to change the retention levels of all backup policy to 1 year, is there any way that I can use the same tape(A0005). Currently the backup fails when I change the retention level, it's asking for new tape .
Can I manually expire the old images on the tape and delete it.

After adding the Dedupe Server, I'm unable to manage it and receiving:
Could not authenticate user. Do you want to retry?
I've tried logging in as the service account used to administer DLO and adding the account to the user_info table w/ and w/out a password. I'm still getting the same error message. The Dedupe server is in fact running on http port 8080. Please advise.
