I need a solution

Hello,

I´m using Netbackup 7.5 on a Windows Server 2008R2. I have got a robot libary (LTO3) with six drives. I can catalog and import the LTO tapes without any problems. The tapes a written with NDMP.

I have got a SAN network with the libary, a robot, the server 2008r2 with NBU and celerra ns 480. There are all conncted via Fibre Channel to a SAN switch (there a all in the same zone).

The license for NDMP is activated. I have got root access on the ns480. The NDMP service is already started.

Now my problem is, how can I connect NBU with the fibre channel to the ns480 ? I want to restore the LTO3 tapes via NDMP at the celerra ns 480.

regards,

Henning

BE 2015 FP2 - Sharepoint 2013 with SQL 2012 Always On

I need a solution

Hi,

We have backup exec 2015 FP2 and a sharepoint 2013 farm using a sql 2012 backend, utilising always on using a listener name.

How do we go about backing this up? At the moment we are having to use sql to backup to a unc path and then back that up and not do any form of sharepoint farm backups.

In the BE2015 SCL guide, it states that you cannot backup\restore using the listener. However, it does state that you can backup the primary member. How do you go about doing this using a sharepoint farm backup job and not use the listener?

Or the best way to back this up...

Thanks

I need a solution

Hope someone can help me with this.  I am trying to restore a single file within SharePoint (SharePoint 2013).  The restore completes successfully but we (NBU admin and SharePoint Admin) can't find the file.  The file we are attempting to restore is NOT in any of the SharePoint recycling bins (first place we checked), and doesn't seem to appear any where on the server.  This one has me baffled (along with Veritas support..:-)  Any ideas/suggestions regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Full Backup Not Truncating Logs SQL Simple Recovery

$

I need a solution

I have a backup exec server running BE 2014 backing up databases on a SQL 2008 server. There are a few databases that have large transaction logs on them that aren't shrinking. All of these databases are in simple recovery mode. When I run dbcc loginfo on the databases, all of them have VLF's that have a status of 2 meaning they can't be shrunk until a backup has been done on them.

In Backup Exec, I've tried configuring a full database backup as well as a full followed by an incremental backing up only the log and truncating it. Each one of these doesn't truncate the log nor change the Status = 0 which would allow the dbcc shrinkfile to run and shrink the log.

Now as I understand it, databases in simple recovery shouldn't need an incremental backup that truncates the log; a full should do that. IS that correct? Also, if not, how would I setup a backup that truncates the log as the goal of all this is to keep the growing transaction logs under control.

In order to shrink the log file, I've had to run the following manual queries.

backup log dbname to disk = 'path\to\backup' (sometimes run this a few times to get all the status = 0)
dbcc shrinkfile dbname

SLP_No_Target_SLP

I need a solution

Hello,

I started to use AIR to replicate images of a remote site to our main site.

On the remote site I configured an SLP with two targets.
The two targets are Backup appliances 5320's. They are part of the main environment.

On the main site Netbackup made an SLP for one of the targets to import the images of the remote site, however for the other target it doesn't. For that target is uses "SLP_No_Target_SLP" as the job policy name.

I figure that Netbackup needs to make two SLP's on the main site to import the images. But then they would have the same name, which is not possible. We want to have the images on both the appliances, and that is happening now. But is there a better way to acomplish this? Because this "SLP_No_Target_SLP" looks like an error to me although it is just a cosmetic issue I think.

The main site is Netbackup 7.6.0.2
and the remote site has version 7.6.0.4

Any ideas?

Backup Exec 15 Performance Slow

I need a solution

Hi, we're another struggler w/ Backup Exec's performance.

Brand new fresh install of Windows 2012 R2, Backup Exec 15, Dell PowerEdge R430, internal RAID5 (or 6 I don't recall what the Perc on it had available), dual port SAS 6Gbps card to Dell TL2100 w/ two drives, (4) 1G NIC's LACP'ed to one team - and we tried just one single un-teamed NIC by itself, all current firmwares, Windows and BE updates/patches, trying to backup VMware 6.0u1 in the same rack; VMware environment is Dell M1000 blade stack w/ EQL 6110's, all 10Gb in blade stack and storage infrastructure, connected at 10Gb uplink to 1Gb Cisco 3750 switches, the 1Gb to our BE server.  Jumbo frames enabled throughout entire infrastructure.

Same as other folks who have this issue, we can single-stream file copy at full 1Gbps, or multi-stream file copy up to nearly 4Gbps of our team.  We've also tried stripping out LACP team entirely, just one single NIC connected at all, same thing, can easily drive up full 1Gbps throughput at the OS level file copy (either drag-drop in Windows or use mutliple instances of robocopy).  Backup Exec will only pull data at ~300-500Mbps no matter what either B2D or B2T using VMware agent backing up VMDK (not Windows agent).  That's watching network utilization of 300-500Mbps, and BE job rate of 2.5-3.5GBpm which seems to jive.

Our argument is the same as others, network speed is proven to be good since we can move files at speed so BE should be able to do the same.  Everything runs very fast except BE.  Trouble shooting steps taken:

-Repair, despite it being a fresh install; no change

-Local disk defrag, despite being fresh install and OS reporting 0% fragmentation - also wouldn't seem to matter when B2T runs same slow speed; no change

-Trend Micro excluding install and BEData folder, unloaded; no change

-NIC tuning, including enabling/disabling flow control, confirmed 1Gbps full-duplex on each NIC, as mentioned can push up full bandwidth w/ file copies, enabling/disabling off-loading, NIC buffers, flow control on switch; no change

-File size and buffer tuning from w/in BE; no change

-Registry hack buffer tuning via article #85311; no change

-Numerous reboots, including reboot every trouble shooting attempt listed above; no change

-Wireshark ran while running backups; no trouble found, good clean network connectivity, jumbo frames confirmed, good window size, etc.

Backing up a couple of small 20GB VM's runs at about 2.5GBpm/300Mbps average.  Backing up single 460GB VM runs at about 3.5GBpm/500Mbps average.  Even the large VM at the faster speed is unusable if we have 13.7TB worth of critical data - 30TB overall data, that needs to be backed up in a 29 hour window (calculated 90-95 hours for 13.7TB!!).  Please double-check my math just in case.

Opened support case #20190763; overseas technician indicated our speed was "already better than average" or "better than most people get."  Did include notes for above registy hack buffer tuning as well as article #90966, disabling buffer reads.  I'll try this next.

Searching this forum, I did find several similar issues but the threads were closed w/o resolution.  I don't know why.  I also found similar posts on other forums of our same issue w/ no resolution.  We've engaged our VAR about the backup system they've sold us.  Does anyone here have any ideas please?

Slow backup from media server

I need a solution

Hi,

We are running Netbackup 7.6.1 on Windows 2008 R2 Sp1.

We have 1 master and 6 media servers.

One of our media server is not backing up as fast as the others. We are usually able to backup at 70-90MBps even more, but on this one particular media server we are unable to get more than 20-30MBps.

Any idea why or what could cause the speed difference?

Thanks for the help.

Backup Failure

I need a solution

I would like to apolagize if this is a stupid question. I took over support for one of our locations a few months ago, so I don't have  alot of experience with BackupExec 11d. Last month our backups started failing. The tapes we were using were old, so we replaced those. That didn't help. We just got a new tape drive in, I hooked it up, installed the drivers for Server 2003, went into Backup Exec and ran the wizzard to install a new drive, and ran a test. The test ran sucessfully, however my backups are still failing.

This specific server is using LTO 4 tapes and backing up a little under 100 GB of data. The job is set so that if it takes more than 8 hours for the job to run, it will automatically end. Talking to a coworker, its been set up like this for a while. Looking though the job logs, it used to take 6 hours to backup. All the sudden, its taking over 8 hours, so the job is automatically being cancelled. The write speeds have gone from 360-400MB/min to as low as 110MB/minute. There has not been a drastic increase in the amount of data it's backing up.Some days it backs up as little as 30GB, other nights its as high as 88 GB.

In the recent past we had a hard drive and a RAid controller battery fail on this particular server. I don't think that has anything to do with it, but I'm grasping for straws. Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can go about solving this issue?

BE 12.5 IDR DC not the only DC

I need a solution

Hard drive failure, replaced, and performed an IDR of the server.  I have not connected the server back into the network yet.  It is a DC, but not the only DC, so I just need an non-authoritative restore for this DC.  Does the IDR automatically restore the whole system state?  Do I have to restart the server in DSRM and do an additional restore of the system state? There seems to be no documentation on what IDR restores for a DC.  The netlogon and sysvol shares are not created, and the policies and scripts folders under sysvol are missing.  Do those get created once it replicates with authoritative servers?

If I have to do another restore of just the system state and I want it to be non-authoritative, I would not select "Mark this server as the primary arbitrator for replication when restoring folders managed by the File Replication Service, or when restoring SYSVOL in System State", Correct?

Bug Report: Tape media allocation date not showing in multiple list views in BE 2014 and later

I need a solution

I have verified this bug is consistent across multiple tape media set views and all major versions of Backup Exec since at lease 2014 at multiple client sites. Attached is a screen shot example from BE 2015 FR02. I realise the example shows no tape media listed, but all other tape media set views that list media are also missing the "Allocation Date" column, despite the fact that it is selected to be shown.

This makes managing tape media significantly more difficult than it should be.

Create NetBackup Policy for Enterprise Vault Agent Backup

I need a solution

Hi

I'm after a bit of clarification on how to best backup the EV finger print database with NetBackup using the EV agent.

The EV environment consists of 3 x EV servers each with it's own Vault Store and all using the same VSG and hence share a fingerprint database (sharing is configured at a Group level. EV version is 11.x and NBU is 7.6.1.2

In the NetBackup EV guide is says:

"To ensure consistency when backing up a fingerprint database, you should add all open partitions of the vault store group and the fingerprint database in the same policy."

However it also says:

"The open partition directive backs up the open partition and Vault Store database of the Vault Store that you specify when you define the Vault Store name.

This directive does not support multiple policy clients in the client list."

How do I backup all the Open Partitions of a vault store group and the fingerprint database in the same policy if the directive doesn't support multiple policy clients in the client list?

Am I misunderstanding something?
