I need a solution

As per title, we've run some image imports but the imported images arent available to initiate restore from the SQL end.

All we have available are the backups that are currently still active, ie the imported images are not visible.

The same missing info is  (not) seen via gui and via bplist.

This is 2008r2 in cluster.

I'm trying to determine if functionally one has to do something else somewhat like say rman for Oracle or whether (as is possible) the import wasnt totally successful. The person who imported is on leave, but having rerun one of three imports it came back with 100% "fragment already exists, skipping this image".

Running "images on media" suggests import was successful as I can see the backup ids, client. schedule etc suggestig import was correct.

I need a solution

Got the oppotunity to shelve our current catalog and backup set to allow us to move from 7.5.05 to 7.7 in an easy jump, by not taking the existing catalog over.

Basically starting over.

Our environment is

Live-Environment

Windows 2008 (no sp)

Netbackup 7.5.05

MSL6060 Tape Library x3 LTO 3

Test-Environment

Windows 2008 (no sp)

Netbackup 7.5.05

HP MSL2024 x1 LTO-5 3280 FC Tape Lbry

HP Ultrium 960 x1 Lto3 drive serial scsci

Want to go to Netbackup 7.7

In Live.

Have a server that can have windows 2012 r2

New tape library MSL 2024 with x1 LTO-6 drive

In Test.

Will need to restore from the new 7.7

Other than the direct path of upgrade from 7.5.5 to 7.7, which means a (if ive followed my documentation correctly).

an upgrade of windows 2008 to SP2

restore 7.5.05 catalog.

install netbackup 7.7 and upgrade the catalog

take a backup of the catalog

build a new windows 2012 r2 box

install netbackup 7.7 and then restore the catalog.

Can anyone see a simpler method, by starting again, our estate is reducing in number of backups from 40+ to 5 policys a night

Quick question on the upgrade. From what I have read it looks like you can go straight from 7.6.0.2 which is my current running version up to 7.7.1. I asked via email just to verify and the engineer we have access to said that we had to install 7.7 first and then 7.7.1, but from what I read it said that 7.7.1 was a complete installation package and the upgrade can occur from all NB 7.x versions. Just wanted to be 100% sure.

Also if anyone is aware of any gotchas or issues going from 7.6.0.2 to 7.7.1 please share.

I need a solution

Over the weekend I was surprised to discover that Backup Exec was dumping our SQL Server databases.  What led me to this discovery was that we were out of space on the C drive on the production server.  This is bad.  

It looks as if BE dumps to disk first and then moves those dumps to tape.  Is this the case?  Since I already had another script doing database backups (but not to the C drive !!!), it's now not 100% clear what is doing what and why.  I'm not sure how BE works but I do not see any backup devices defined in SQL Server so I have concluded that it must dump to disk first.  But then I cannot see where I could change that behavior, maybe to dump to another drive.

Hi All,

My SAN Client backup jobs over Fiber are getting hung and when I cancel it and restart the job manually backup goes fine over fiber transport.The back job will be active for hours and write nothing and when I cancel & restart it will go fine.Also noticed my backups some time  fail over to LAN rather than FT, it suppose to be FT as SAN Client has been configured.

My master is Solaris10, FT media server is Solaris 10, Clients are Windows 2008.

Netbackup version on all the servers is 7.6.1.1.

Please provide your thoughts on this.

hi,

we have alerts set up to email administrator when a new user gets configured on a laptop.  we are seeing multiple alerts when a user logs into their own laptop, even though they are already configured.  no changes to profiles are made.

this has started happening only in dlo8.1

anyone else experiencing this?

I am trying to do NDMP restore on the same filer but get the erroras failed to get status code information (2850).  its a EMC VNX 5400(Unified) storage .

Request you to help me to solve the problem . Media & master servers are Installed with rhel6.5 OS  & 7.6.0.3 netbackup .

I need a solution

I have a rather large backup job that goes through multiple servers and does incremental backups every night. I have a file server with 6 drives. Every drive backs up successfully except the last one. It fails every night on this drive. Here is the error I see:

e0008445 - The media operation was terminated by the user.

I am fairly new to Backup Exec taking over an environment from someone else, so I may be looking in the wrong places for clues, but this is the only error I can seem to find. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place for errors/logs?

The only other thing I see is under details for that servers backup, it shows backup status as "Canceled" for the last drive while the other drives that are backing up correctly say Backed up.

Hi,

We're writing a Backup Exec module for our network documentation tool for customers to be able to document their Backup Exec configuration.

We've found another disturbing bug in the BEMCLI PowerShell SDK when viewing Hyper-V selections

The issue seems to be in the BackupExec.Management.CLI.BEHyperVSelection class. When the Host Component is excluded this is clearly shown in the browse and selection details tabs.

However when viewed using PowerShell the SelectionType is clearly shown as Include rather than exclude. This is potentenially dangerously misleading.

I need a solution

i have serveral windows server 2012 R2 that are running the agent utility (14.2). when installing the agent does symantec also install java on the server or not?  i keep getting a pop up to update java but dont remember ever installing it on the server nor running anything else that requires it.  i have tried to research it online and didnt find anything related.

I need a solution

Two days ago I created a new Job to install Remote Agent on an upgraded machine (W2008 -> W2012)

I am not sure what I did, but the job keeps running again and again. It takes only few seconds for the job to complete successfully.

But then it starts again immediately. therfore, I have about 13000! complete messages already in the log and still counting up!

Of course, I have only ONE job in the job list at a time.

This did not help:

- Cancel the job

- Delete the job

-Suspend the job.

Starting the BE services new does not help also.

What can I do ?

I was just informed that Veritas no longer officially supports tape drive connectivity to a backup server running on VMware.  

If anyone has a solution for BE15 running on Windows 2012 in VMWare, please let me know.  

Does 2014 support it? 

My hardware is HP Ultrium 3000 LTO5 (SAS).  LSI Ultra 320 SCSI 2000 series card.  VMWare 5 and 5.5.  Currently running BE 2010 R2 SP1 on Win 2k8 R2.  Plan to build a new 2012 server and reconfigure BE from scratch.

I need a solution

We are starting to move mailboxes to Exchange 2013 in our environment and I would like to start backing it up using BE2014. I went to install Ex2013 mgmt tools and it complained that there is already Ex2010 tools installed. I don't want to stop backing up Ex2010 yet but at the same time cannot go without backups for new Exch2013.

Is there a workaround?

Options

1. Do I have to do windows backup(role) based for Ex2013 till I could migrate over? Then backup the files.

2. Or Bring in new BE2014 and backup to separate volume and then move it back?

Hi all,

I do not understand how perform a restore of a VM Hyper-v in different Hyper-v server.

I have two cluster "SYSCLUHVP01M" (source) and "SYSCLUHVP01S" (destination) and each cluster has 2 node:

SYSHVP01M01	SYSCLUHVP01M
SYSHVP01M02

SYSHVP01S01	SYSCLUHVP01S
SYSHVP01S02

Both the clusters are under the same VMM (Virtual Machine Manager):

SYSSVCVMM02G

For restore I use "Backup, archive and restore" from master server and easily I arrive at this screen:

1. I sected different Hyper-v server

2. I inserted the destination Hyper-v server

3. I can see that the destination is empty and I m not able to browse or fill manually.

4. If I try fill this field, I see ONLY the source directory, but I am not able to browse and select other path, a screenshot below:

I can fill this field with any words, I do not understand.

Some information about this evironment:

Master server - OS Windows server 2012 standard - NBU 7.7.1

All cluster Hyper-v - OS windows server 2012 R2 Datacenter - NBU 7.6.1.1

Netbackup IMPORT  jobs are using different media server

My SLPs STU is poiting to correct media server - which  I am expecting to take & run for import jobs - But in my case the Import jobs are taking different media server.

I can see one setting in nbemmcmd -changesetting command

<-common_server_for_dup> - will this workout for Import jobs Or it will work only for Duplications.

Can you please help me to use the specified media server for import jobs rather than using random media servers.
