BE2012 and custom reporting

I need a solution

I am looking for a way to easily get a list of what files are on each tape.

Our workflow is as follows:

When employees are done with a job, they archive files from our of software to a folder on our SAN.  Backup Exec 2012 backs this folder up to tape every night.

At some point, not every day, an employee enters information into a custom database that includes things like the client, job number, etc.  One field in this database is the tape(s) that the final archive ended up on.

Backup Exec doesn't seem to have a way to create a report showing what data is on each tape.  The only way I can get this information is by going to each slot in our library, going to details, backup sets, and compiling into a spreadsheet what files ended up on the tape.  This is very time consuming.

I've tried getting this information with custom reports and with the PowerShell CLI, but this doesn't seem to be possible.  The only other method I can think of to get this information is to hand compile it from the reports that get emailed after the job runs, but I have a few problems with this.  First, the HTML reports only seem to work in Internet Explorer and the only Windows machine we have in the entire company is the Backup Exec server.  Second, the plain text reports are a mess and it's very difficult to get the information out of it for our "backup admin."  Third, I'd really like to automate this and I see that as being very hard to do with individual emails.

How can I get the information I need out of the software?

Exchange 2010 R3 GRT Backup (Using VMware and Native Backup)

I need a solution

I am having issue backing up Exchange 2010 using VMware agent. The backup takes very long time. When I backup the same exchange server using Native Backup it only takes 2.5 hours. Both Native and VMware backups are GRT.

Just wondering what VMware agent back takes 8 hours. Is there any patch that solve this issue. Media Server shows "Updating Catalog" and it sits there for hours.

We had same issue with SharePoint and I end up not using Symantec backup exec. for SharePoint. Same message updating catalog and it takes 15 hours.

Schedule?

I need a solution

*sigh*

So, I schedule a Full job for "every 4 weeks" on "Friday" stating "2/1/2013"....and the calendar/list says it will run 3/1/2013...@#%$...I change the start date to 4 Fridays before - 1/4/2013 - same thing. I change it to 1/1/2013...same 3/1/2013 start date. For BLEEPS n giggles, I make it once a week starting 2/1/2013...it says 2/8/2013...using that "logic" setting it for 1/1/2013 should have worked.

Anyone have any idea how to do THIS SIMPLE BLEEPING thing in 2012? Have I mentioned how "in hate" I am with this version? I have to use it for the next 9 months....but come renewal time...

Large Incremental back file - BackUP Exe 11d

I need a solution

Hi,

Problem: Very large Incremental files. Seems to be going forever until disk runs out of space.

I am doing backup every day of the week. Back up of two seperate departments>>>>makting and Accounting.

Saturday and Sundays I take full backups of both the dept.

Marketing Differential backups are fine all through the week. It starts at 8pm. Hardly take more than a 2 or 3 GB.

Accounting backup are incremental. They starts every night at 11pm. They seems to keep going until I run out of space. The average size of the files ranges over 150GB +. So, if each files is 150 x5 = 750GB.

Please help.

Thanks,

Wasim

File Archiving Option, list files that are archived

I need a solution

Hello,

I need to produce a list of files that has been transferred to an Archive Vault using the File System Archiving option for Backup Exec 2012.

We need this because we do not want to give users access to the BE console, just a list of files they can search, so they can check if something is in an archive.

Any input on this would be great - I have seen the CATTOOL.exe (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...) but I don't think this is what I am looking for, because you can only export an individual catalog.

Thanks again.

Graham

Can backup Exec perform dual tape drive backups simultaneously?

I need a solution

I  have a Sun/Oracle SL24 autoloader

It has 1 tape drive we use for duplication of our backups

As we grow - the duplication of our backups is taking longer and longer.

We are considering purchasing a 2nd tape drive for our autoloader, but we don't know if BE 2010 r3 will alternate which drives are being used, or if it has the capability of performing DUAL backups (2 tape drive jobs at once) assuming that they would be put into a "pool".

Does anybody have experience with this?

The VM has had its VM tools reinstalled and has been rebooted with no change in the failure detail. It had been rebuilt and had a successful full backup this past weekend before the failures began. Would the "ERR - Error opening the snapshot disks using given transport mode: Status 23" message point to something on the SAN storage on which the VM resides?

Thanks,

Backups not Running after Changing Tapes

I need a solution

I have just changed tapes for the first time.  For the last month my backups ran pretty smooth.  Now, it seems to be requesting some of the old tapes to perform any new backups.  I tried manually performing a one time full backup to tape on one of the servers to see if that would let me back it up but it would not run.  I have created two media sets, one for daily incremental backups and one for weekly full backups.  I set half of my tapes to the full set and half to the incremental set.

Why does it require the old tapes to continue backing up my servers?  How am I supposed to change tapes if it requires the same old tapes?

I am in the process of testing the NBU 7.5.0.4 and noticed that during an AD restore from a backup of Windows 2008 Domain controller from a GRT backup, the SYSVOL object cannot be drilled down into to restore a GPO. Is this on a roadmap to be added in as a feature?

I need a solution

We run a full LAN backup job each night. The tape device pool for this job consists of 6 tape drives, with each nightly job comprising 3 tapes. I've noticed that if I do not pull the tapes on a given night, the following night's job may overwrite one of the previous night's tapes even though there are 3 other tapes available. Is there a way to keep this from occuring and for the job to utilize tapes that were not written to the previous night?

Cannot Backup SQL databases since upgraded to backup exec 2012

I need a solution

Hi,

I have upgraded to BE 2012. Since, a scheduled job fails with the following errors on each SQL database located on a remote server :

Warning: %Database_Name% is a corrupt file. This file cannot verify.

Before upgrading, everything was ok.

I have a valid licence for the "Agent for Applications and Dabases" on the local server. On the remote SQL server, "Symantec Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows" is installed. I installed it remotely from the local server.

Actually, what is weird is that the scheduled job fails, but when I start the job manually, it completes with no error.

Can you help me ?

Thank you,

Best regards.

Backup Exec 12.5 Remote Agent won't start, Error 1053

I need a solution

I just installed our old Backup Exec 12.5 on a brand new Server 2003 R2 x64 install. I made sure that that the software was completly up to date before I tried pushing out the Remote Agent. I tried pushing out the Remote Agent to the another Server 2003 R2 x64 which is our DC. Now, I can't get the Agent to start. I'm continuously getting the Error 1053 saying that service did not respond in a timely fashion. I've done alot of researching online and found about 20 articles that address that error with different kinds of fixes. I never knew a single error could be "fixed" so many different ways! Anyways, I've tried several things and I still can't get the Remote Agent to start.

I also wanted to mention that the DC previously had Backup Exec 2012 Remote Agent installed on it. I think I got that completely uninstalled before installing this old Agent, but I don't know if that could have anything to do with it or not. The media server did not have any Backup Exec software previously installed on it, it's a brand new build.

Thanks for the help!

I need a solution

I have BAckup Exec 2012 Version 13.o Rev 2896 (64-bit) that has the Hyper-V agent installed.  I am getting these type errors:

Errors

Backup

V-79-57344-65233 - A0F0: Initialization failure on: "VRTSRV:\\CAS-VH2.cas.hsig.com\Hyper-V?Virtual?Machine\VCAS-IIS.:. Advanced Open File Option used: MIcrosoft Volume Shadow Ccopy Service (VSS).

Snapshot provider error (0E000FED1): A failure occurred querying the Write stsatus.

Check the Windows Event Viewer for details:

Write Name: MIcrosoft Hyper-V, Write ID: (66841CD4-6DED-4F4B-8F17-FD23F8DDC3DE), Last error: The VSS Writer failed, but the operation can be retired (0x800423f3), State: Failed during prepare snapshot operation (8).

Exceptions:

Backup - VRTSRV::\\CAS-VH2.cas.hsig.com\Hyper-V?Virtual?Machine\VHSIG-SP1

V-79-57344-38726 - Backup Exec failed to connect to virtual machine 'VHSIG-SP1' and was unable to collect the necessary metadata to restore individual application items. You cannot perform GRT-Enabled restores of application data from this backup.

I have looked at many of the suggested solutions but they do not apply..  Help please.

Thanks much

Cathy Adams
