SSR2011 - Error EC8F1FA7: None of the source drives are currently available

Hi all,

I've got a stubborn Win XP SP3 workstation that's developed an issue whereby it's only backing up intermittently with the errors:

Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of (C:\).

Error EC8F1FA7: None of the source drives are currently available.

Error EC8F03ED: Cannot create the recovery point.

Error EBAB0013: A test that safeguards the integrity of the program failed unexpectedly. CHECK failed,

Computer::CreateImageFile: .\Computer.cpp(1453): guid != Guid() && sequence != 0xffffffff. (UMI:V-281-3215-6071)

 

This workstation had been backing up fine to an Iomega NAS for a few months, then developed just the EC8F17B7 and EC8F1FA7 errors.  I couldn't get the workstation to backup manually and reboots didn't help.  I suspected that the problem was caused by some cloud-storage tools the user had installed on the workstation - Dropbox & Livedrive, but stopping their services didn't help.  The only way I was able to get a backup to run was to restart all the SSR services a minute or so before the SSR job was scheduled to run.  This worked fine for a week before the backups stopped and the errors started getting thrown again.  Interestingly. the system tray incon doesn't give any indication that the backup has failed - it still displays the green tick.So I then uninstalled SSR, which required the use of the uninstall command line tool as SSR wouldn't uninstall from Add/Remove Programs - this made me think that something had hooked into the SSR VSS provider.  Once uninstalled, I got the latest download from FileConnect and reinstalled SSR, configuring a different backup directory on the NAS.  This backed up fine for a few days on the same schedule as originally configured, but it's now throwing all the above errors.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

SSR 2013 hangs up on "removing backup files"

I've installed SSR 2013 on other machines (virtual and physical) with no issue.

I just tried installing it to a VMware VM running Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (disk type in VMware is parallel, not SAS).

Was logged in as domain admin.

It installs, then right before it is finished-- just hangs with "removing backup files" message.

Cancel does not work.  Can't exit the install.  Needed to reboot the VM.  SSR 2013 can't connect to the drives (but the services are present and can be started).  Have not tried the trick of resizing the drives-- to get SSR to be able to see the drives (that was recommended and worked for a physical machine in which SSR console could not connect to the drives)

Any idea how to get past the "removing backup files" message?

I tried a reinstall/repair-- but the same thing happened.  Luckily I have a snapshot jujst prior to the install.

I've reverted back to prior to the install.

Backup A DAG Take Long Time

Hi,

I wondered a t the past month or more..I have a full Backup Job with BackupEexc to a DAG

the backup is done from teh PAssive copy..it is in the same site..AND it takes about 25 hours!!

does someone has any idea what causing that...? please..

Lost password for backup exec selection list

I need a solution

I created a backup exec 2010 selection list that used a restricted logon account. I lost the password.

When I try to update the selection list, it prompts me for for the password I don't have.

If I try to edit the account using the logon account wizard, it asks for the same password.

How do I fix it so I can update the selection list?

Will Backup exec 2012 work with a HP lto-6 tape drive on Windows server 2003 x64?

Hello experts.

I need a definitive answer on this.

The new HP lto-6 tape drives say they do not come with drivers for Windows server 2003.

But the Backup exec HCL has the HP lto-6 drives listed as being supported with the backup exec tape driver.

Does this mean that if i use the Backup Exec device drivers for the HP lto-6 drive it will actually work on Windows server 2003 x64 even though there's no hp driver's available for 2003?

The specific device in question is a HP Ultrium 6650 lto6  External Backup Drive EH964A

We have corporate policies preventing us from upgrading to Windows server 2008.

Hi,

Is there a way to stop the manualy canceled job showing up as failed job?

We have a successful job that is now overshadowed by red cross, rather then green tick.

I guess I just want to remove the extra over head labour.

Hi,

While I was setting up the backup jobs, one of the servers ended up having a very detial job Log.

How can I change it to more simplified one without deleting and recreating the backup job?

One more thing, whats the best way to go about implementing a new backup routine.  I want to delete what's in Backup Exec and start fresh but don't want to lose the backups that are already there - just in case.

I remember reading about a database/catalogue tool where you can reset the data, should I first make a copy of my existing backup files to other storage area and a copy of the program file/backup exec etc folder

Then run this tool?

Hi All,

We have been getting an error about off host backup failing, however, the off host backup has not been specified in the Advanced Disk - Based backup  options menu?

Another error talks about not being able to use the snapshot, however, once again the option is not selected in the advanced open fie options menu?

Is there some other process that is causing this?

Hallo,

wir sichern täglich ca. 250 GB - 300 GB auf 400 GB LTO-Bänder. Leider kommt es immer wieder vor, dass die Sicherung nach ca. 270 GB stoppet und ein neues Medium verlangt. Eigentlicht müsste die Restkapazität ja gut ausreichen um die Daten zu sichern. Die Sicherung ist so eingestellt, dass die Medien überschrieben werden sollen. Es ist auch auffällig, dass keinerlei Komprimierung erfolgt.

Hat jemand eine Idee woran die liegen könnte?

Besten Dank im Voraus für Tipps

My company will shortly be purchasing an LTO 6 Tape drive (manufacturer and model yet to be confirmed). We are running Backup Exec 2010 R3 and I need confirmation that the Symantec Tape Drivers will be compatible with LTO 6 Tape Drives.

Backup Exec 2012 - Backup to Disk and Duplicate to tape issue

I need a solution

I want to setup backup jobs to do Full and Incremental backup to backup data to disk and deplicate data to tape.

Can I setup backup job to deplicate backup data immediately after both  full backup and incremental backup finished to backup data to disk?

 

When configuring  the schedule setting of backup job, it seem to able to select either full backup or incremental backup only to duplicate to tape  ? Both cannot.

Hello,

we have an BE2012-MMS-Server (Win 2003 R2) in FarEast, connected succesfully to the CAS in Europe. This is the only server there, so he has to backup himself. Services: SQL 2008 Express and Files. Backupstorage is an Buffalo Linkstation NAS (2x2 TB, RAID 1). Gigabit connection. Backupfilesize in BE is set to 1GB.

Now I have start a backup2disc-job for Files only (no SQL etc). But the job is queued for about 35 minutes; then backup with about 400 - 500 MB/min the 1GB bkf-file; then hung for 35 minutes; then backup with 400 -500 MB/min; then hung for 35 minutes; and so on. During hung, the status is displayed as "Loading media"

In about 29 hours he backuped about 30 GB. On the NAS I can see a 1GB bkf-File stored every 40 Minutes.

With a locally attached USB-Disc the same issue.

Manually copying files to NAS and USB-disc runs much faster, as expected.

A one-file testjob ended successfully after 45 minutes.

BE is up to date. No entrys in the systemlog. Same issue when increasing to 4GB bkf-Files.

I'm clueless :(

Slow transfert rate for some jobs

Hi,

Some of our backup jobs are slow, i noticed that the network bandwidht is not used (only about 10%). Please take a look at 3 screenshot. It seems BE is limiting bandwidht ? How can i force it to use more.

On the print screen you can clearly see that BE uses only few bandwidht, the LAN speed test is very good (so it's not the network and not the strorage)

Note that we have others jobs are running at more than 5000 MB/min and i noticed that the network is then used at more than 80% (witch is very good).

Please help

Restore individual files from incremental vm backup successful and 0 bytes

I need a solution

I use Backup Exec 2012 with GRT. I make full backups of all VM's thorugh virtual center server on friday and on weekdays incremental backups.

The backups were successfull. All the VM's have the Backup Exec agent installed.

I tried to restore some individual files from a wednesday to the original location. The job completes successfully, but the byte count is ZERO.The are no files restored. I also tried to restore the files to a different location, but also nothing is restored and the job is successful with 0 bytes.

Anyone else with the same issue? What's going on?

Backup Exec 12.5 Catalog problems

I need a solution

I am currently attempting to restore data on one of our old systems that recently suffered an outage. I have one backup from a month ago that worked fine and restored the data, unfortunately I am having problems performing a catalog on two other tapes, I should only need 1 to work to get the last 3 weeks of data.

The problems on the tapes are as follows:

Tape 1 - Error e00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.

Tape 2 - Error e0000900 - The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the Catalog operation.

For both tapes I have tried the following:

1. Rename the catalog folder.

2. Try using a different machine and tape drive.

3. Tried using a clean BE DB

4. Changed the registry settings for TapeFormat as described in a Symantec article.

I have not had any look with anything I have tried. I am sure there is more data on Tape2, however as we use a single tape drive it looks like it failed during a backup about 2 months ago as the tape was full. The tape is set to append or overwrite and the next backup would have taken place after the overwrite protection period had ended. Unfortunately the catalog job just stops when it can not find part of a set from a different backup.

On Tape1, the inconsistent data appears at the same point which leads be to believe there is a problem with the tape, is there a way to skip over that part and get to the rest of the data?

Is it possible to get the data from these tapes? Or is it just gone?

System solaris 10 , has two pathes to drive,
