Reoccurrence of not being able to restore from a tape

I need a solution

Hi!

I had an earlier post where I was unable to restore from an LTO5 tape.  Quick recap: In attempting to do a restore, I got a message telling me to catalog the media first then try to restore from the tape.  The problem ended up being that I had two or three instances of the LTO5 tape when I looked in the media set.  The solution was to delete those multiple instances and re-inventory the media.  I cataloged them and was able to run a restore.

This morning, I am back to the "cannot-restore-until-you-catalog-media first."  This is quite frustrating.  So I did a few things to see what exactly I can do with the LTO5 tapes.  Here's a list of all the tasks I can successfully do with the LTO5 tapes:

1) Import and inventory:  Successful

2) Catalog an LTO5:  Successful.  When reviewing the catalog job log, in the "Set Information" section, it tells me, "This backup set has already been cataloged.  This backup set may not contain any data."  Funny thing is there is over 600GB of data on 4 of the 5 LTO5 tapes I am trying to restore from!

3) All backup jobs there were targeted to use the LTO5 tape drive and write to the LTO5 tapes, completed "Successfully."  In reviewing the backup job logs, no errors or warnings were reported.  Under "Alerts," I found nothing alerting me that data was not written to the LTO5 tape nor that the LTO5 tape drive was not functioning properly.

4) Erasing an LTO5 tape can be successfully done too and you can write to it...but forget about doing a restore from it.

5)  Rechecked the Barcode settings for the LTO5 and ensured the Barcode Rules are "enabled."

I do have a last resort:  Revert back to using LTO4.  But I really prefer to not chicken out on upgrading my backup suite the new LTO5 technology!

Does anyone have any other suggestions/ideas to help me solve this reoccurring problem?

Thanks!
