Good Day,

I'm running Server 2008 R2 with Hyper V on the Host.  Running as VMs are the DC, Exchange and a third server, all running Server 2008 R2.

The Backup Software is running on the Host.

Recently the backups grew from 600GB to 700GB, and now this week they went to 900GB. 

I did a usage check by looking at all of the VMs, and in total they use around 400GB (adding up the space from the C and E drives).

I'm running BE 2012 Version 14. Rev 1798, 64 bit.

I edited the backup job and it isn't backing up a USB drive or something like that by mistake.

The space on the host adds up to about 800GB, and I have no idea why it's using all of this 'Ghost Space'....can anyone shed any light on this please?

I have read the multiple threads about VSS error messages that pop up when you install a new USB HDD for backups and I am experiencing the same challenge.  Even if I am not using the drive for the back up.

I can not seem to allow for the VSS Storageshadow to be maked as unbounded to be able to use this work around it wants a size allocation.

Has antone created a cheat sheet to get around this error, other approaches that might work.

We are in a MS Server 2008 standard, Backup Exec 12.5, the new hard drive is the seagate 4 TB, and yes it appears to be the size of the sector challenge.

Our charity support from Symantec has expired it appears, so they are unable to assist.

My all restore jobs are failing with an error-

Final error: 0xe0008444 - An error occurred while scanning the catalogs. The job will not continue.

Check for the following:
- low virtual memory conditions
- a corrupt or truncated catalog
- that the media you are restoring has not been overwritten
Final error category: Job Errors

 I tried restarting the service, repairing the database and also tried the cat rebuild command

HI

 BE 2014 With Deduplication Disk( upgraded From BE 2012 SP4) is not deleting Expired "Exchange 2013" VM & Database Backups .

i tried Manually Expiring Backup Sets , Activated delete last successful backup and Reclaim Deduplication Disk Space manually with no hope.

Local Deduplication Disk is my main Storage for daily backups ,now its full and i cant delete old Exchange 2013 Backup Sets (2 TB) , can anyone help me with this problem?

I am having difficulty configuring Backup Exec to backup my Microsoft SQL Express databases on multiple computers that are part of a Rockwell Automation software installation.  SA account is required and I don't know the password.

Does anyone have experience with this combination?

In BE2014, to create new storage on a volume, besides to create a BEData folder on the volume,will BE delete the other existing folder or files  on the volume? Do we need to backup the files on volume before create a storage on it?

I found a couple of entries on this topic but they were from 2011.  Is anyone using VMware backups to backup a Windows cluster?  My client based policies backup C: and System State on the invidual nodes and ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES on the virtual node.  Do I have to configure different backups with VMware based backups?  Is it even possible?

My environment; NetBackup Enterprise Server 7.6.1.1 on Windows Server 2012 R2.  I can get the version of VMware when my VMware dude comes in Monday but it's more than likely the latest and greatest.

Thanks in advance with any successes, failures, headaches, heartaches, and/or disappointments you may have experienced with this topic.

So is there any file in windows/linux/solaris that shows its a master/media/nbu client?

1:Pls share the path...

Hello, 

Still in the learning stages of NetBackup, but also in the process of setting up alerts for the first time. I've setup a couple of example alerts around thresholds for failed jobs, and for job successes and failures, so there's a good deal of email that should be generated, and showing up in my email inbox. 

I've seen the alerts in OpsCenter, so I know that side is functioning (seemingly) as it should be. However, those messages aren't making it to my inbox. The SMTP server we're using is IIS 7.5 (uses IIS 6 legacy for SMTP), and I've gone in to make sure that relay settings allow messgaes from my OpsCenter server, which they do. In looking at the logs, I see messages like this:

The problem? There is no DATA transmission from the NBU ops server to the mail server. So it's making a connection, telling it there is mail to be sent, but not sending any of the alert content through. 

Is there something I might be doing wrong here? The alerts are default, it's only looking at a single NBU master server currently, and the SMTP settings are standard, nothing weird about them. 

Any idea to try is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

I recently set up a backup job for a newly created folder on our file server that was configured for DFS (Distributed File Syste).

I didn't notice at first because the job completes successfully, but when looking into it further the byte count is very small (always shows 1,800) so it doesn't seem to be working.

Does anyone know of any issue's or specific configurations that I'll need to apply to get this working properly?

I'm running Backup Exec 2010 on Windows Server 2003, soon to be moving to 2008 R2.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

I have Backup Exec v14, running on server 2008 R2.  Everytime I run a differential, or a full backup, the job completes successfully.  However, after the backup, my tape drive goes "offline", and all subsequent jobs will fail until I manually enable it again.  The drive is still reachable via windows, just not through backup exec.  Its easy enough to "enable" it, but its not practical to do this every day.  Any help?  thanks in advance!

We received information from the netbackup team that backup are failing after it runs sometime.

They asked to check if there is any filesystem issue.

Running 7.5 SP1...

If we had some users with dedupe enabled in their profile and we want to later disable it completely, is it just a matter of unchecking it from the profile?  Will they need to run a complete backup again of everything to de-dededupe any files that were previously backed up or is this taken care of on the server end?

Hi

I have a media server name XYZ which is having Basic Disk STU - /mount1

I had taken the backup through that Media server., & it was successful.

While restoring I tried to restore it via Master server ABC - but it is failing with 83 error code.,

Having Backup Exec 2014 SP1 installed on windows 2012 R2. When we try to backup virtual machines hosted on Hyper-V 2012 R2 cluster.

Some virtual machines fails with below errors. 

Virtual machine "virtual machines name" has been excluded from the backup because it must be put in a saved state to back up.

Integration services up to date.

I had installed window server 2012 r2 standard and exchange 2013 sp1. I also have install backup exec 2014 with dowmain user accout which have Administrator of Mailbox server. Then I try to backup but information store doesnt retrieve. did i miss setting something. I need somebody to help me.

Hi ,

Currently i configured a policy with 4 user backup schedules , one for full backup to tape and one for full backup to disk and also one incremental to tape and one incremental to disk .

i configured these schedules because the netbackup server is 1GE while the Enterprise client is 10GE so i make the tape backup from the master server and the disk backup from the enterprise client to nas storage mounted at the enerprise client .

when i run backup from the client , it choose automatically the first schedule in the list " full backup to tape " and didn't run the other schedule .

the question here how can i run all the schedules automatically when i initiate the backup from the client ?

In BE2010, I can see the Byte Count in job history -> set detail information for every backup servers/drive

In BE2014, I can only see the total count , cannot see by count in details for each drive. Is it normal?

In BE2010, we can restart backup exec services of MMS in CAS by clicking menu Media servers -> Backup Exec Services

where can we find it in BE2014?
