Hello All,
I am looking for some help on what would be the best practice for removing pdvfs directories from the /var/tmp file system? The /var/tmp file system is filling up with pdvfs directories and I would like to remove these however; the only articale I can find refrerences an EEB fro NBU 7.0.1.
https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH153190.html
I don't think this applies becuase currently we are running NBU 7.6.0.2 on all systems in the environment.
Master and Media Servers are running Solaris 10 and NBU 7.6.0.2
All Clients are running NBU 7.6.0.2
Thank you in advance for yoyr help!!
When I SSH to master server, under activity monitor, I keep seeing catalog backup status code of 2009 and 2. It always show two status code of 2 and one status code of 2009. We are using Scalar i40 Quantum tape library, its current version is 175.GS001. Based on our weekly tape backup, we expected weekly tape repot but received zero. Tried to run manual report same issue. I believe this catalog issue impacting tape backup.
I have researched on Symantec website found this KB https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH141955.html to resolved the status code 2. But when I log into server, we do not have color:#6E6E6E">NBDB.db under bin folder.

when I right click on job id here is information received:
problem: Status 2009: All compatible drive paths are down but media is available
My question is, how can I resolve this issue.? I am new backup adman not much knowledgeable with symantec products. Would you please advise?
Thanks for yoru time in advance.
Hello everyone,
I have a old 64bit server with 2008 R2 installed on it with BE2012. We recently purchase a new 64bit server and installed win 2k12 R2 with BE2014. I will like to move all of the backup information for the past 3 years to the new server. What is the best and easiest way to do this?
I have BE 2014 (14.1), and a number of backup to DeDupe jobs. Those run fine. I want to duplicate those dedupe backups to tape. (in other words, I'm doing B2D2T)
When I load the library with WORM media, with proper WORM labels, BE keeps alerting with "Please insert overwritable media".
If I give it normal LTO tapes, the job runs fine. It refuses to see WORM media as a valid scratch tape.
I've noticed that normal backup to tape jobs have the option "Use WORM media", but the Duplicate to tape doesn's show that option.
What gives? How to I duplicate to WORM?
Hi all ;
currently i take oracle backup to tape and conmpress it via netbackup so the total size approximatly 35 GB , then to test the database restore from the netbackup i delete a datafile called example and try to restore it from rman via the below script
run
{
allocate channel c1 device type sbt_tape;
restore datafile 5;
recover datafile 5;
sql 'alter database datafile 5 online';
}
but it take long time approximatly 2 hour to restore datafile 1GB ,and after diagnose we find that it restore all datafile 31GB compressed and uncomress them and restore the only datafile 5.

Hi
Is there a best practice in terms of backing up the KMS database and how long it needs to be retained.

Duplication is running fine via Drive "HP.ULTRIUM6-SCSI.000" but via HP.ULTRIUM6-SCSI.001 it's failing.
In my opinion thats an issue with the two different paths.
In windows device manager everything looks fine.
When i run "scan -tape" the result is clean.
Rebooting the media server and tape libary didn't solve the problem.
Do you have any idea how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards
Hello!
WeusedNetbackup7.6.1
With scripts.bch has been configured Full online backup SQL database whichsucceeds. Recovery with .bch isalsosuccessful, butonly onthe same server. (in mode "recovered" and "not recovered" (.mdb,.ldb))
How to set upa database restoreto a different server?
I have triedto makethese instructions:
Recoveryis initiatedon the masterserver
Redirecting a SQL restore to a different host
Multiple NetBackup database clients can be configured to use a single NetBackup
master server for backing up SQL Server databases. With this configuration, you
can back up SQL Server database objects from one client and restore them to
another. In the following procedure, HostA is the client that was originally backed
up and HostB is the other client to which the restore is redirected.
To redirect a restore to a different host
1 Establish permission settings on the master server.
Do one of the following:
■ Create a install_path\NetBackup\db\altnames\No.Restrictions file
to allow unrestricted redirected restore privileges.
■ Create a install_path\NetBackup\db\altnames\HostB file to allow HostB
to restore HostA's data. The client named HostB can then access HostA's
data on the master as well as any other client's data that was backed up
on the master.
2 Select File > SetSQLServerconnectionproperties.
3 Log onto the target instance on HostB.
4 Select File > SetNetBackupclientpropertiesand select the current master
server to be a master server that is common to both HostA and HostB.
5 Select File > RestoreSQLServerobjects.
6 From the Backup History Options dialog box, select HostA as the SQL host
from which the target objects were backed up.
When the restore window appears it contains a history of objects that were
backed up from HostA. Select those objects and restore them to HostB.
In this scenario,I get an error
ERR - Error in CoCreateInstance: 0x80040154.
and Recoveryis initiatedon the clientserver which was backuped
https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH35995.html
Here is an examplewith the option"not recovered"

HostB - destination client

As now all I fix this? I already read a lot of topics on the forum and admin guide, but nothing happens...
Is it possible to perform a recovery exclusively on the master server in case the server is physically damaged power?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks!

But a couple times a week I can have from 30 to a couple hundres of the below errors that happen in a few minutes.
""ODBC access error. Possible lost connection to database or unsuccessful access to catalog index in the database""
So any idea's on how to fix?
Would I try a database repair first?

I have four different drives backed up on a 2008 r2 server and the OS drive is the only drive that will not convert to a VHD. It fails every time. I have created conversion jobs for the other drive individually and they all run fine all using the same settings and locations as the OS conversion job but it fails.
With this error??
Error EC8F1F48: The 'Microsoft VHD' conversion process could not be completed.
Error EC8F1F46: An error occurred trying to retarget the virtual disk F:\DLC\Backup-hyperV\Backup-HyperV_C_Drive.vhd.
Error E0BB0004: Function Retarget Virtual Disk argument Mount Point is invalid. (UMI:V-281-3215-8008)
Details:

The other drives that do convert are using the same back file form the same location and saving the conversion to the same location which is actually a local drive on this server.
Hi,
We recently bought a couple of LTO5 drives and have them working perfectly with BE2010. Only issue is that for some reason BE detects the drives as if they cannot do Hardware Encryption.
I am sure the drives are capable fo hardware encryption as their LTO4 predecessors were too.
Any ideas as of to why this is happening?
Thanks
I can backup the client, loaded the software with all correct master/media servers. Put info in host files.
I need to make exclusions in the host properties, but cannot get it to come up. Take a long time, then says invalid error number.
Can do nslookup with name and IP both ways, no problem. Firewall is on for the client, but an inbound rule is made to our windows media server and IP to allow all TCP ports.
on the media server bpclntcmd - hn server name returns correct name and Ip of client
Any ideas would be great. Thanks.
Environment: netbackup appliance (master/media), 2.6.0.3, client is physical box running windows server 2012 standard. This is a file share, which is configured as a synthetic backup.
Where my confusion lies, is in the reporting on the daily incremental--
04/29/2015 01:17:19 - Info crhnbu01 (pid=3673) StorageServer=PureDiskNETBACKUP01; Report=PDDO Stats (multi-threaded stream used) for (NETBACKUP01): scanned: 177340597 KB, CR sent: 727843 KB, CR sent over FC: 0 KB, dedup: 99.6%, cache disabled
04/29/2015 01:17:19 - Info bpbrm (pid=3398) validating image for client crhsfiles1.nterprise.crhs.net
04/29/2015 01:17:41 - Info bpbkar (pid=5560) done. status: 0: the requested operation was successfully completed
04/29/2015 01:17:41 - end writing; write time: 2:13:48
the requested operation was successfully completed (0)
Current kilobytes written is shown as 177092457, whereas the CR sent is 727843 KB, so which is actually being transmitted over the network?
Second, the client is configured for client side dedupe, and per the dedupe guide should display two deduplication rates where I only have one dedupe rate. What am I missing?
There is a trial version of dedupe on my production server and now I am unable to perform the upgrade to BEX15.
How do I uninstall BEX14 and keep all my settings, Jobs and databases.
