I need a solution

Hi!

Are there any documentation regarding migration from NBU 7.1 to 7.6? Client is requesting for one.

MOP

1)  Copy the Netbackup client 7.6.0 binary

2)  Disable the backup schedule in the existing master server

3)  Stop the Netbackup client service

4)  Rename the /usr/openv/netbackup to others name

5)  Untar the Netbackup client 7.6.0 binary

6)  Install the 7.6.0 base on client installation guide

7)  Upgrade the Netbackup client to 7.6.0.4

Thanks!

Hi,

I would just like to confirm if BE 2015 for VMWare and Hyper-V can do backup and replication from one site to another via network.

Thanks.

Restore job is failing.

Backup exec 2014 Sharepoint 2013 file to NTFS restore.

I need a solution

Hello,

I'm currently working on a case with symantec about the failed restore form the sharepoin to itself but this is not what this forum is about.

For testing purposes i tried to restore a file from a sharepoint backup to a local disk to see if i at least was able to recover a file. I ended up with this error:

e000ff23 - Backup Exec does not support the redirected restore of individual items from SharePoint Server 2013 to an NTFS file system.
For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-65315

(The link is broken so I didn't bother adding it)

My question is: Is the restore of individual items from SharePoint Server 2013 to NTFS possible in BE 15?

I need a solution

Hi

Running environment:

Master Server: Netbackup version 7.6.0.3 running on Red Hat Linux 6

Media Server: netbackup version 7.6.0.4 running on Red Hat Linux 6

We have changed the IP address of the media server, and after the change we are able to ping the media server from the master, and vice versa. I even see Media server under Host properties as connected. But Under Devices - Media Server, i am unable to Activate the media server. It fails with error EMM database error 196. Can someone please guide me as to how i can resolve this issue? This is urgent so quick reply is appreciated. Thanks.

Any suggestions for network settings and tuning on remote media server

I need a solution

Hi all,

Long time since I've posted but things in our environment have been running quite well.

We have a master server in Toronto: 7.6.0.3.

We setup a media server with it's own robot in Montreal. 7.6.0.3.

Master: Windows 2008 R2

Media: Windows 2012 R2.

When I run a backup job (flashbackup or ms windows) on a large file server, The job starts and copies some data (sometimes a lot, sometimes a little before it fails).

Error codes I see are:

1: (42) network read failed
2: (636) read from input socket failed

I did some reasearch and found this technote (which I implemented)

https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH206817.html

Seems to still be an issue. Prior to the above fix, duplications from san to tape failed but now seem to be running ok. It's just this one job that backs up this large file server that is causing issues.

Does anybody have any suggestions with regards to tuning when it comes to remote media servers?

I do see under Media Server properties, there's a timeouts section but, thought to ask if any of you have played with this before.

Thanks all!

Seth

Metadata from SQL Server backup image

I need a solution

When creating a move template for a restore in the GUI client, it is able to quickly generate a listing of the SQL Server logical and physical filenames for you to change:

MOVE "DBNAME"
#TO "d:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\data\DBNAME.mdf"
#
#
# Replace the file path <d:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\data\DBNAME.ldf>
# with a new file path. Also remove the hash mark <#> which precedes the keyword <TO>.
# The target of the MOVE keyword must be "DBNAME_Log".
MOVE "DBNAME_Log"
#TO "d:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\data\DBNAME_Log.ldf"

I am wondering where or how it get's this information?  Is it stored in metadata somewhere in the backup image?  I am working on scripting out a restore so would like to find if there is a command line command I can use to get that metadata to build a move .bch script.  I know I could go to the source SQL Server, and find the information, but I need to do this without the process having access to the source sql server database.

I use bplist to get the image names to restore, I just don't know how to get this metadata.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

BE2010 AVVI, Weekly/Daily Templates plus Manual Full Backups

I need a solution

Hi,

We perform backups of VMware 4.x virtual machines using Weekly Full / Daily Differential templates created by policy, GRT enabled. VMs are Windows 2008, Backup Exec is 2010 R3. It works pretty well. (We are upgrading, but need to support this setup at 30+ discreet sites during a s-l-o-w rollout.) We also manually perform quarterly "off-site" AVVI backups to USB drives.

I got to wondering, does the Full backup we perform to the USB drives interfere with cbt for the policy-based backups? In other words, do the Differential backups run the rest of the week link back to the manual Full VM backup, or to the policy-based Full that ran before it over the weekend (do I need to re-run the template-based full backup after the manual backup)? A "Full-Copy" backup should not affect change tracking, but this does not seem to apply to VMware backups.

In a related vein, if that weekly Full fails or gets cancelled the Differentials still run successfully. We figure that was okay because "the differentials would work with the last good full backup". My reading lately suggests otherwise, and that I would need to complete a good full backup for later differentials to be usable. Which is the case?

Thanks for all your comments.

I need a solution

Hi

I have a SQL 2012 server (virtual machine) which I intend to backup using the agent for vmware API method.

I believe once the options are enabled I can perform a GRT restore for SQL. My query is regarding full system recovery. If i restore the vmdk from the image level backup will it also recover the SQL components or do i have to perform a SQL restore once the VM is restored.

Thanks

It says "not using change journal data" , and incremental backup is taking more than 2 hours to complete ! Is this usual ? And for other drives, log says " not configured for use" .

Use change journal should be enabled in client settings ?

I have this 2 tape drives that always on state DOWN TLD, even if I repeatly perform "up path". I don't see any H/w failure there (SLConsole) either. Have anyone had the same issue like this? Btw, I'm using Tape Lib SL3000

I need a solution

Hello,

I have a full backup of a physical Windows 2012R2 Server with Backup Exec 15, and I want to restore it as a VM on a (different) Windows Hyper-V 2012R2 Server.  I tried using the SDR disk, but there seems to be a problem with the UEFI configuration, evn though the VM is Gen-2.

Is there a way to do this by using the SDR disk?  Or, is there another way to perform the restore?

Thank you in advance

I need a solution

Greetings, I our institution we have 2 host running Windows Data Center with hyper V, we buy the Backup Exec 14 Vray Edition for the backups. We have an Exchange server 2013 and a Server for SQL 2012 databases both servers are virtual. We're trying to set up backups for the exchange database and sql databases (not for the server), I will like to know if there its a manual for configuring the Exchange database in a virtual server or if we need to buy an agent for the backup. I want to make clear that we're trying its to make backups for the databases and not for the server itself. Thank you for the support.

I need a solution

Hi

I am setting up a new  BE 2014 envt and using the BE dedup option with HP MSA as disk storage.

Since I am backing up VMs (using API) which are a mix of Linux and Windows does it make sense to have 2 diff disk libraries one as target, 1 for Linux VMs and other for Windows ?

Will this give better dedup ratio than having a single disk library for both VMs ?

Also I have couple of phsyical Wndows servers which have DBs running on it. Any suggestions on what config will give me the best dedup ratio.

3 diff disk library (1 each for Windows VM. Linux VM, phyiscal servers )?? or have all of them point to a single disk library ?

Thanks in advance.
