Hi Forum-Members,

I experiencing problems when trying to perform a granulary restore on Windows Server 2012 R2.

We are running Backup Exec 15 on a Windows Server 2008 (64-Bit Edition), the Agents are deployed on Windows 2012 R2, and backup can be performed. However the backup-job reports an exception, that no granulary restore can be performed on the 2012R2-servers, since they are running a more recent operating system version than the media server.

How can I circumvent this problem ?

Hi Forum-Members,

I am trying to backup a QNAP NAS (Firmware 4.1.4) with Backup Exec 15. There are only SMB-shares present on the NAS.

Since I did not succeed with getting any Linux Agent to run on the QNAP, I was trying to backup my files by using the "activate selection of user shares" option (sorry, if the translation is wrong, I am using a German localized version of BE).

However, no matter if I try to access the NAS-device with a domain account having full access rights on the shares or the QNAP's admin-account, I can't see any shares in the NAS's entry within the Microsoft Windows Network list.

When entering the UNC-Paths of the shares when creating a backup job, BE reports a communcation error.

I suspect, that BE fails setting up the trusted connection, which I always have to activate.

Is there a way to set up a backup job without a trusted connection, or what way would you recommend to backup a QNAP-NAS with BE15 ?

Hi,

We get intermittent 156 errors on windows backups relating to open files and the Volume Shadow Copy service. I've read this doc about it - https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH38709.html - but have a few questions. 

I understand that Netbackup with VSS attempts to make a temporary point-in-time backup copy of an open file and then backs that up. Does it do this with all open files? What if I had a 100gb SQL database mdf file that was open, would VSS attempt to make a temp copy of it? 

If I turn off open file backups for a Windows server does that mean I get no backups of open files, including all the key exe files that the windows system and applications run? It sounds like a backup with open file backups turned off would be fairly useless if used to restore a server -  is that a fair assessment?

Hallo Community,

ich versuche unter Backup Exec 15 einen Dateiserver Server ohne Windows Agenten zu sichern, d.h. die entsprechende Lizenz ist vorhanden, jedoch kann auf dem zu sichernden Dateiserver (NAS) kein Agent installiert werden.

Das darunterliegende Betriebssystem ist ein Linux, jedoch keines, dass den Einsatz des Remote Agenten für Linux unterstützt.

Bei der Einrichtung des Backup-Jobs wird nach der Eingabe der zu sichernden SMB-Freigaben und Login-Konten folgende Meldung ausgegeben:

"Der Server konnte den angeforderten Vorgang nicht abschließen. Das Stammebenenelement konnte nicht vom Agent abgerufen werden. Mögliche Ursache: Es trat ein Kommunikationsfehler auf".

I hear Symantec released new Symantec OpsCenter 7.7. I like to upgrade from my current 7.6.0.2 to 7.7. My question , OpsCenter 7.7 is it working on NBU 7.5.0.6 ? Or should I wait until I upgrade my nbu system to 7.7.0.2 ? Thnak you.

I had backup exec 2014 SP2 on Windows Server 2012 R2.

The dedup storage is full with backup sets expired after restart the backup exec services, spoold.exe stay "starting".

The description for Event ID 1 from source spoold cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
25004: Could not initialize performance counter for \Processor(7)\%Processor Time(no such object)

Hello,

I'm running BE 15 on Windows Server 2008. I have 2 SQL servers; a production and a test. I made a backup of the production server's SQL databases and would like to restore them to the test server. But when I choose "Restore", the only server that appears is the production server so I can't restore to the test server. Similarly, if I go to the test server and choose "restore", it only shows itself as the point to restore from.

Is there a way to move from server to server in database backup and restore using BE? We're testing this out assuming that our production server totally crashes and we have to bring a spare online someday.

Hello,

I have installed netbackup master and media server on server [host1] which is redhat linux server with text + GUI mode.  Then I have created on more additional media server in same network on another server [host2] which is also redhat server but only text mode is installed on it.

My both the servers [host1] and [host 2] are communicating with each other. Both haveing static ip address.

On [host2] I have install only text mode of redhat...so I am not able to open netbackup console on [host2].

I want to connect and manage [host2] Netbackup console from my [host1] Netbackup console with help of option [Host Properties - Media server (Right click) - Change server].  But change server option is not highlited. And in media server list only local media [host1] server is listed. Remote media server is not avaiable there.

What will be the issue.  How can I resolve this and will be able to manage addition media servers from master server.

If I have a backup job, which I also want to replicate using AIR between NetBackup domains, but I already know in advance that it will never de-duplicate... then is there a bakup policy selection directive which can be used to instruct MSDP to not attempt to de-dupe for that particular backup job?

Hi All,

I noticed that many of the expired imges are still visible in the Client Backup View and from restore but not visible in catalog and we could see the image details using bpimagelist command . Any idea why these images are still reported.

Anyone else having issues with Netbackup Accelerator after upgrading to version 7.7?

Before all my jobs ran perfect but now some volumes of some clients aren't getting accelerated anymore (optimized 0.0% in job logs)

Wierd thing is that it's only some volumes. Other volumes on the same clients are working properly.

already tried:

- Running a new forced rescan
- Deleted the old tracking log
- Deleted the windows change journal
- Restarted server and client
- Upgraded client to 7.7

all no luck.

When i creat a new policy which back ups the same client and volume the accelerator is working fine ?!?

Anyone else having this issue or have tips to resolve this issue?

Hallo.

Experts, geeks, MVP’s,J I hope you people can help.

We currently have a very big problem. Suddenly we cannot backup and restore any windows 7 pc.

Our image is deployed with software central. It’s both x86 and x64 image.  Our server that deployed the image is a Microsoft server 2012 . So our system partition is 350 mb and c drive the remaining space.

There are non-backup programs that can restore it.

We have used:

• Symantec v.11 /v. 13
• Snapshot.
• Acronis.
• Hdclone

We have tried all sorts of setting in bios and so on. The funny thing is that a windows xp is no problem.

Even if we install a windows 7 by hand from a DVD. No problem. Our other department have build there image a bit different. There is no system partition. It’s all on the c drive. That is also working fine to restore.

We even tried to build the BCD from scratch. With no luck. We have sent one of our pc’s to snapshot in Germany they also could not restore it.

 Our hardware is HP elitedesk from 8100 to the newest 800 g1  its business pc. So they have all got a tpm chip installed.

So guys what could we have missed. What could possibly be the problem???

Hello I keep getting this message, my backups stopped running can anyone assist?  I have a neo tape library and one of the drives is down because I'm waiting for the cleaning media could that be the reason??

The scheduling options selected for this job do not allow it to start later than 10:59:59 PM. It will be considered missed and rescheduled. Check the scheduling options to ensure that they allow enough time for the job to finish running before it is rescheduled.

I need a solution

Recently our tape drive failed so we had to purchase and install a new one. I have only started using Backup Exec 2012 in the last few months so I am by no means a pro. With a little help from Google I got the drive up and running so it shows as usable media in BE. I changed all the storage on our backup jobs to point to the new tape drive and everything seemed fine.

As part of my backups I do daily and differentials to disk. I have one mounted drive we us to store these backups, its currently labeled D:. Anytime I run any job that uses the D: drive it either gets queued for 14+ hours and never runs or gives me an "Unconfigured disk storage 0021" error. With the message

Backup Exec attempted to automatically reconfigure the newly discovered disk storage device for use, but the reconfiguration failed with the following error:

Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

I wouldn't think the D: drive would have been effected by the replacement of the tape drive but that's the only recent change we have made to our BE configuration. Do I need to remount the D: drive somehow? It shows up via windows explorer and I can navigate through the folder structure fine from there. I even did a "test credentials" in the job properties to see if the D: drive was available and it came back successful.

I've got a 5230 appliance (master/media) in a remote site with mostly VMs being backed up.  I have my VMs configured to be selected by a policy using VIP, and I have Accelerator enabled.  In my VMware policy tab BLIB is enabled (not an option with Accelerator, I think?), I'm using SAN transport with NBD as secondary transport option.

My admin console reports that incremental bacukps are *consistently* about the same size as fulls as well as full-rescans.  I'm wondering... is this considered "normal" behavior for VM backups using Accelerator?  If so... I wonder why?  If I run a client report, the incrementals show far fewer *numbers* of files backed up, but the size is about the same as a full.

I was trying to add the agents to the machines that I wanted to backup but when I add the file RAWS32 and then try to run the setup file I get an error about the path and DVD?  A box pops up 32-bit media required, then current installation could not locate install media then when hit the browse but and go to the file for the agent software, it tell me The path selected is not valid installation DVD.  Which I have loaded already on the C: dr.

I am trying to restore mail box one of my user from Netbackup 7.6.1.1 from date 1/1/2015 to till date, but it's showing a blank data on a perticular mail on a restore menu box.

i got the image on tape which import and duplicate to pure disk and i verfiy the image it's showing the image...but while try to restoring it's showing blank.

please find the attachment and try to give me the proper solution.
