Greetings,

Could you please help us understand how NetBackup is licensed on Linux and Windows virtual machines hosted on Oracle VM? Oracle VM is Oracle's x86 server virtualization hypervisor, like ESX, Hyper-V, or XenServer.

We do not intent to run NetBackup on the ORacle Vm servers, i.e. the hypervisors, we do intenet to run NetBackup in the Linux and Windows VMs? the Linus and Windows VMs are running Oracle DBs, App servers / WebLogic, and Oracle EBS, and Exchange, and SQL Server. 

Is NetBackup is licensed per hosts, i.e. per hypervisor?

Is NetBackup is licensed per virtual machine?

Please forgive my ignorance with this issue as this is the fisrt time I am supporting this product. 

one of our clients were getting a connection iusse error on their workstations.  apparently they could not connect to the media server.  When I first did a search I thought it was old symantec anti virus/endpoint product that was giving this false positive.  I told them to check for symantec products in the add/remove programs and remove the product.  Come to find out they deleted Symantec desktop agent.  Now they are no longer backing up thier desktops. Subsequently I was able to find the device it was trying to attach to and had to reboot it.  since the reboot all others were able to connect and backup their desktops according to the backup plan.

Is desktop agent a by product of backup exec in that you must create/push the agent out to the desktops or is it a eparate product all together?   They have a few servers so I am not sure which is the main one for this agent creation.  I had found something for desktop agent that appeared to be a client setup file, and loaded it.  when i executed it i received an error msg something to the effect that the registry cannot find certain configurations.

any help as to the procedures to get this app to reload is very much appreciated.

 Do I need to purchase license for exchange if I don't backup individual mailbox? I only backup the whole databases. I just need to install remote agent so I can do the backup? Please advise. Thanks.

I would like to know the main difference between Enterprise Vault for Exchange Archiving and Backup Exec Archiving options? Is it necessary to buy Backup Exec Archiving options if I need Enterprise Vault or vise versa? Or can these products work independently? Someone please clarify me on this. Thanks

I'm considering rolling out the Backup Exec Management Plugin for VMware with the vSphere C# client. 

However need to establish the minimum set of permissions required by a user to effectively use the plug-in.

Backup Exec Sevice Account has permissions required to backup and restore virtual machines, as per

However we wouldn't normally run the vSphere client under this account.

Users with virtual machine power user role, won't know Backup Exec service account details, nor will they have create / edit custom attribute permissions

So does one have to be a backup administrator with knowledge of the BEX service account AND VMware Admin rights to use this plug-in ?

Or is there a way to provide it and the details on VM protection status to normal non priviledged virtual machine power users?

Hi

I've been trying for some time to connect our existing NAS (Cisco NSS2000) to our new Backup Exec 15 server (running on Windows Server 2008 R2). Every time I try to add is as Disk Storage I get the following error: "The path appears to be an invalid path. Please insure the server name and share name are correct"

I've been searching the web for solutions, and I think I found the problem. The NAS is not on the domain (not possible with the available firmware), and it has its own usernames and passwords. When adding servers to backup from, I'm able to choose a login, but I'm not able to do this, when I'm adding disk storage. Someone suggested mapping the share as a network share, but this didn't help either, even  though it looked like it worked for several people using Backup Exec 12. I tried creating an account with a username and password for the NAS on the Backup Exec, and setting it as default, but this didn't help.

Any ideas?

Tenho uma dúvida, pois meu backup está passando para uma segunda fita já há uma semana e não sei onde ou quê está fazendo com o que isso aconteça.

A compactação acontece, porém a taxa é baixa. 1:4,1

Existe algum relatório onde eu possa visualizar o tamanho de cada pasta na fita?

Verão do BackupExec: 2010 R3

I have a Netbackup in a Windows based active directory environment. The issue we are facing is that the backup job takes too much time to complete.

When we remove the DNS server and make Hosts entry the backup is fine. We have a working DNS, both forward and reverse lookup zones are defined. Also nslookup confirmed name resolution for both name and IP (reverse lookup). What is causing this issue?

Hi, 

I need your help to check is there a way to find the Logical resource is currently used somewhere ? in Netbackup 7.1.0.4.

in my shop whenever the SLPcomes to schedule they mostly queued up for a long time with the reason "Limit has been reached for the logical resource " but when I try to check them I don't find any jobs using this resource but somehow the SLPs won't run and waiting for a long for the same reason.

Is there a way I could check the availability of the resource somewhere if it is used ?.

Hi Guys,

 I am in process of writing a script for checking a particular policy, if the jobs ran successfully or not. I will be comparing with number of files backed up previous date. I will do that. However I am also looking if the job completed partially, I would want to get the list of files skipped or gave error, which is present in detailed status of the job in Activity Monitor. I can get that in command line through bpdbjobs -all_columns. But my problem is how do I organise the output of this command to get only the lines which gave error or were skipped, as this command's output is single line I guess.

Hello,

The DBAs are doing an RMAN restore which was taken on server 1 seprdu05. They are trying to restore on server 2 seppuu03.

Both clients are Solaris 10 machines with oracle database 11.2.0.

The master server is RHEL 5.9.

The netbackup master server version is 7.5.0.7

The netbackup client version is 7.5.0.4

The error is as below:

On the client, nothing is reported in the netbackup logs: /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/user_ops/dbext/logs/

It seems that the error "Additional information: 3480" would come from the MML (Media Manager Layer). Is there any logs on the master server that could give more details wether the RMAN job has interacted with netbackup so far?

Any sugestion would be very helpful.

Hey all,

Recently we had a hardware malfunction on one of our fileservers and had to revert to an older system state. Now we are in the process of trying to restore the more recent data back onto it. When I try to go back and restore through the restore wizard it's only showing what looks like to be the logs of the backups being completed rather than the actual backup files? Is there a way I can point it to the storage and have it directly restore the actual backup files?

Sorry I am not very familiar with this software yet!

When Netbackup retries a backup, it is creating a new job.   I was of the impression that a retry would just activate the ATTEMPT counter, and use the same job.   This is inflating our SLA in that we are being charged for each time the backup retries because they are seperatre jobs   Is there a way to make NBU retry the backup within the same job ?

Hi,

Often the policy NDMP runs and fails with error code 2009, i.e. drive down. As soon as it starts the drives go down. It is rerun and then it runs fine.

But why it fails at that time when it is scheduled. Many times it runs good and sometimes it fails with 2009.

Also to check logs there is no folder bptm in  netbackup/logs. If it is due to specific tapes then where to check for logs because the entry has been deleted from activity monitor. 

Please suggest.

One more thing if entry has been deleted from activity monitor then can we get it back or check somewhere else because KEEP_LOGS_DAYS is set to 192 hours.

Can you please help me explain understand the whole process of Duplication because Duplication of NDMP backup is failing with error code 50 but I dont know why. All services working fine, server up.

It just comes when the backup is just to complete.
