How to connect and backup data from SAN to tape library? Please help

I need a solution

Hello everyone,

Usually I scheduled all of the data from our server to go to our IBM tape backup library. As of now, my manager asked me to bring the data to SAN and then back them up to tape library so for that reason we are going to have two backups.

Here are my uestions for this senario:

1) I guess I have to create LUN's on one of our server, put the data on it and then back it up to tape, right?

2) How I have to backup data from SAN to tape? do I have to create backup to SAN folder or not?

3) is there anyway that I can backup data directly from SAN to tape without creating LUN's on one of the servers?

I appreciate for your help regarding this matter.

I need a solution

Hi all,

So after upgrading from BE 2010 -2012 I have ended up with multiple copies of some of my tapes.

For example, I have a tape named TWS053L4.  If I look at 'All media' I can see it 3 entries for it.  They were in different Media Sets but I have put them all in the media set I want them to be.

One of the entries shows the location as my Robotic Library, so I believe this is the 'correct' one, but hjow can I safely get rid of the duplicate entries?

Hello,

How to speed up snapshot indexing? BE 2010 CPS

I need a solution

We are running Backup Exec 2010 R3 as our backup application. We also use the Continuous Protection Server and take daily snapshots. Is there anyway to speed up the indexing of snapshots? We keep getting a warning that says "Indexing is falling behind" and when you view the snapshots a total of 5 are shown, only one of which has been indexed and it is from 6 days ago.

Also, now that I actually look at it, the other 4 snapshots all show as "Pending". It doesnt even look like its indexing any at all...

Thanks for any info you can give!

It appears for each item in Job History. We use BE 2010 R3, and it is installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server. [be-server] mentioned above is the same server that BE is installed on. I've looked in the discussions and online but nothing. Not sure what else to try.

Hello,

We have:

  • BE 2012 running on Windows 2008 R2
  • BE 2012 RAWS + Enterprise Option
  • MS SQL 2008 R2 (standard) running on Windows Server 2008 R2
  • SANs used for master, temp, and db (size 200 GB)
  • FULL Backups each night - takes about 30 minutes - during 2hr time period when DB is quiet, but online.

During 22 hrs of normal business (online and global customers) we would like to take Transaction Log backups during the day. The other 2 hrs are for DB maintenance and FULL backup.

We have MS SQL STANDARD so limited in how many tasks it can do at the same time.

BE 2012 allows job schedule START time (e.g. 6:00 am) and how often job will run (e.g. every 30 minutes) but we do not see a job schedule END time.

We would like the Transaction Log backup to run during 22 hrs each day, but obviously NOT at the same time we run the FULL backup.

Questions:

How can we schedule hourly Log File backups and not run when the FULL backup is running? (or is this not really a problem)

Thank you in advance for your help.

All,

I'd like some assistance in resolving an ongoing backup failure I've been encountering.  I have a backup job that runs against a database that is approximately 637GB.  The job runs several times a week and fails every few days, but there is no pattern to when it fails.  Additionally, the job does not always fail.

In use on the client server:  Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.4060.00 (X64)

In use on the master server:  NetBackup 7.5.0.4

Client Read Timeout on Master/media server: 900
Client Connect Timeout: 900

I've attached the following logs: dbclient, mssql failure log from master server, bpbrm log from master server, bptm log from master server.

-The failure occurs at 02:36 in the log from the client and 21:36 in the logs from the master server.

# bptestbpcd -host fred -connect_options 0 0 2
0 0 2
10.0.0.32:748 -> 10.0.0.59:13782
10.0.0.32:983 <- 10.0.0.59:635

Example 2 - A connection from the server fred is tried to the client wilma by using the vnetd port number if possible:

# bptestbpcd -M fred -client wilma -connect_options 2 2 0 1 1 1
10.0.0.59:40983 -> 10.0.0.104:13724
10.0.0.59:40984 -> 10.0.0.104:13724
10.0.0.59:40985 -> 10.0.0.104:13724

This command will make connections to client on the vnetd port instead of pbx?
And from next time backup will use vnetd port to connect to client?

SQL Server 2008 backups.  Backing up multiple databases in a single batch.  Most of them succeed.  Failures have the error message from the subject (full error for a single DB below.)  I found an article that pertains to NBU 6.5 but no solution offered.  I was looking at the DB properties, but nothign really jumped out at me.

NBU SQL client connets with sa.  Services run as Local System.

Migrating DLO server from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008

I need a solution

Hi,

I must migrate our DLO servers 6.1 (windows 2003+SQL 2005) to a new platform that will be Windows 2008 R2 with SQL 2008R2 and DLO 7.0.

We have near 1000 users on one DLO server, and 500 users on the second server.

Is where a best practice for this operation ?

My idea was to install two new 2008 servers with SQL 2008 R2 first.

Update the old DLO 6.1 servers  to 7.0 in order to have the same version.

Import the database of the old servers with:

> DLODBUtils -backup

Remove the old server, insert the new server in AD, change the servername (in order two have the same name as before).

use >DLODBUtils -restore, in order to restore all the configuration of DLO in the new server.

Please give me your point of view about this process.

Thanks.

Ismail.

How to find B2D files relating to backup set?

I need a solution

Hi,

I added a file server yesterday to my BE 2012 server and created a backup job. There is about 7GB of data in the file share and BE reported a succesful job and stated that it backed up all the data. However, I cannot for the life of me find the file. There is only ONE file in the storage repo that I pointed the job to but it is only 88MB! Where is the REAL B2D file?

When I click on "backup sets" and then double-click the set it created last night there is no where (that I can find) that shows which B2D files are associated with the set. Why?

Thanks!

SDR and DR files

I need a solution

Can you use .DR files created from previous backup sets when you do an SDR recovery?

For example, if you are restoring Wednesday's backup, can you use an SDR file that was created Tuesday?

I'm asking because it seems the .DR file is created after the backup is run, and therefore not backed up until the following job.

I need a solution

Can you have subfolders under the BEData folder? I would like to create subfolders under this folder and label the folders for each server that I'm backing up and directing the backup for that particualar server to it's respective folder name. Or are all the backup files stored in the BEData folder only? Such as: X:\BEData\ServerA and all of Server A's backup stored in this folder X:\BEData\ServerB and all of Server B's backup stored in this folder X:\BEData\ServerC and all of Server C's backup stored in this folder

I need a solution

My larger challenge will be getting from 11d to Continous Protection for Hyper-V.

Can anyone chime in on how they backup their SQL/Exchange (any DB) VM's.  Do you just backup VHD's; or do you actually perform application aware backups of the databases from Symantec Backup Exec?

Looking for strategies....

I need a solution

Hey! Using IE9 , Chrome  (on Windows 7) or Firefox  I am unable to download files for Netbackup 7.1 from fileconnect.symantec.com

What happens - I enter the site , enter the serial number , choose the language , choose HTTP download , check the desired download (whatever) and click the "begin download" button and then after some downloading  it showing " Unknown error"  and downloading is cancelled .

I tried with Download manager also. After downloanding 55% , it is asking username and password . Here , I attached the screenshots. Please find the attachments. I tried with my authorised licensing symantec registered username and password. But still problem is not solved.

Any help or advise is greatly appreciated!

NetBackup 6.5 Restore Stalled

I need a solution

Hello,

I'm trying to run a restore from two tapes. The first tape completes the portion of the restore and then NetBackup loads the second tape and the status says "begin reading" and then nothing happens. It looks like it's just got stuck. Hopefully someone has some ideas as I really need to restore this data.

Thanks,

Ben

I need a solution

Hello friends

we have moss 2k10 farm (upgraded from 2k7)

2 frnt end (NLB)

2 back end (clustered)

from central admin console we are able to back up whole farm, but on disk only. (with grt , thanx to microsoft for adding these features in shaepoint)

with NBU when initially our backups was configurd it only showed databases......

we do have workflows enabled in shrepoint for internal review, approve and reject functions based on requests. wht if my site goes down will NBU ensure is it completely safe with DB backups only

as with Backpu archive restore console doesn't show anything other than that

is it possible to restore only workflows wid NBU???????

or we need to change our backup strategies.... wht is best ????
